Just kidding. I figured the blogs section has had enough with the girl-help/girl-fail/girl-ilikebutwontaskherout threads.
So here's a girl success story. *bragbragbragblog
Ever since I was little, I've always been that shy Asian kid sitting alone reading. I usually had two or three friends who I got along with, but I was never very extroverted. I started hanging out with more people during high school, but meh, I guess shit happened and the last two years of high school sucked. I told myself I'd change once I got a fresh start in college.
American University. Met this girl from Shanghai. Pale white skin, long naturally black and brown hair that goes down past her shoulders, tall for a girl, but about 3 or 4 inches shorter than me, intellectual, photographer, loves reading. Oh, and such a cute accent. Was studying with her one night (ok it wasn't really studying...), on a couch together, and I put my arms around her and kiss her.
Which, now that I think back to it... what the hell was I doing?? This was like the first time we've actually hung out together, the other times were just: see her on campus, say "hey whats up" "not much, just going to class... how are you?" "alright, just heading back, see you around!" "bye!"
We've been doing really well since then. Took a trip to Boston to look around, go shopping and eating, and we had an amazing time. I'm so glad I was daring enough to go ahead and kiss her. She's such a great person to talk to, loves to cook (just starting learning a few months ago), and is caring.
Guys, just go out there and do it. Be confident in yourself, and don't be afraid of rejection. The worst thing is "No", and then you just move on. So go for it. You'll be so glad you did. Because I definitely am.

you're not supposed to straight up tell us you're asian.

Ahahaha, if he did, I doubt any of us would have been able to guess that he was seeing how he actually had a set of balls and did something.
Well that's great to hear man. I feel bad that I made a girl thread too, although technically it wasn't a thread to ask for advice or anything =_=. But alas, TL will be TL =P

awww this was such a good blog. definitely wish there were more success stories like this.
gj dude!

So Asians are OP in luv and SC2?
|
Yeaaaah just go for it! You have to do stuff in order for stuff to happen. Lucky you good sir :D But if everyone was as confident as you, we wouldn't have swarms of people asking for dating advice from a Starcraft forum. I'd miss that dearly.

and now you can get yourself the kids you crave and eat them and move on
|
A Shanghainese girl that loves to cook? something sounds off haha.
|
Waiting for chill post. Anyway, good luck with her! I'd love to have an asian girl >: all we have are vietnamese here..

|
I was just joking since the stereotype within China is that Shanghainese girls are materialistic and don't do a lot of household chores but physically attractive/pretty whereas Shanghainese guys are whipped, do a lot of cooking, and aren't that manly.
Anyways, glad you are finding happiness and congrats.

wait so you kissed her and then what happened, are you guys just friends now or are you together

American University? Do you know this Asian girl with short hair (used to be blonde/black, now pink/black) who walks around campus in fashionista clothing?

Who is it? Do you go to AU?

Mainland girl -__-; But other than that, gj.
|
^ gtfo! >:[
gj, I don't think I could do that with someone I barely know haha
|
|
I guess a kiss ok pretty cool, but success stories start to kick off when it progresses past that. Other than that, good going. But you do know that girls do like when guys just go for it, and also know when to pull back. So advance for more ground, but dont rush it you know? And if you focus too much on "am i pushing too far" dont, she will tell you or pull away physically when doing it if she doesnt want to

We've been together for 2 and a half months now, so it's going well
also, what's wrong with mainlanders heh

High five dude! she sounds like a keeper.

The worst thing is "No", and then you just move on. That's not completely true. If I would try to kiss the girl I like, I risk our friendship (which is ofc. pretty important to me). Rather have friendship than nothing.

Eh, every mainlander I've dated, although hot and tall, has been materialistic as hell. Maybe it's just a Los Angeles thing, but Taiwanese/Korean girls are slightly less materialistic in my experience.
Hollywood swinging, that's right.

I would say hold out for another six or so months... Two and a half months is still a pretty short period. I am assuming you never talked with her parents on QQ or something of that sort. Depending on her parent's generation, they may or may not be so opened minded about seeing their daughter with a "laowai." Anyway, all the best and good luck.

This is why you never date friends, duh. If you were interested, you should have made a move way before you got into the friend zone. If you didn't make a move, then you probably weren't interested to begin with.
Note: I used to be a dating coach in Hong Kong, so my opinions might seem a bit extreme to some.

wait wait!! you have to give more details than just "i reached over and kissed her and now we are together"!!!!
what happened right after you kissed her? did she reciprocate? was it awkward? did she jump on you and tear off your shirt? what did she say? what did you say? did you talk about it afterwards?
SO MANY QUESTIONS!! bragblog is incomplete!!!!!!!111 >:0

Yeah I was wondering too. If you're like Hitch that must be an incredibly funny job lol.
@op : Congrats, finally a blog which is not about a dude with a lack of confidence. You got some balls to kiss her and you were rewarded (Shanghainese girls are great gl hf).

No, I'm not like hitch at all.
There are actually a ton of "dating coaches" here in the US too. They (me included) lean more towards pick-up than relationships though, since it's easier to teach and much less complex. Most people know about it from the best selling book "The Game".

@OP, I'm glad you posted this AFTER you went through with it... usually it's some pointless speculation and the OP deciding that he's already almost achieved his goal.
EDIT: @link0 Hmm, I have to said I have observed what you say about materialism and mainland girls to be true... but that's not the case for the slightly more whitewashed ones

Like any generalization though, there are exceptions.
I'm really glad that my girlfriend isn't like that though. From spending so much time with her and talking about pretty much everything, I've gathered that she's really similar to me: logical, rational, reasonable. And not just in stuff like academics. I mean in life. And quite the opposite of what it sounds like - she does know how to have fun because of that rationality. I consider myself rational because I know how to enjoy life and get the most out of it. And she thinks in the same way.

Obviously you have a huge problem here. The thing you have to remember is, there are other fish in the sea. 3 billion human females. Don't feel too bad about it; get over it.
|
Did you read the OP at all, or just throw some generic answer out there?

Sounds like a keeper. It's still early though, so I wouldn't keep all my eggs in one basket, ya know.

yea, actually most of the girls I hooked up with were just abrupt kissings that lead to more things (either her initiation or mine). I can't really think of a time where it didn't lead to anything else.

By the way OP, as you get to know her better, you should inquire as to what she plans to do after college as she is likely in the US on VISA.
Also, be very wary if she suggests anything about you helping her with her immigration process.
I'm not implying anything about her but just speaking from experience.
|
Yeah I've heard my parents talk about that before about someone else. How some girls will marry to get into the US with plans to divorce.
|
Well done, and you're right about trusting your instinct in this matter. Waiting too long decreases your chances, going for it soon enough will increase it, I met girls that clearly stated sometimes they were not into a guy that much but the fact that he tried naturaly made him very attractive.
P.S. : Of course the fact she was at your place chilling was a clue she was interested anyway.
