Seriously, this reminds me of MMORPG grinding, and the leveling curve has just gotten a lot shallower, kind of like Aika Online's did after level 50. We told the developers that Americans would hate this, but did they listen to us? Of course not. Everyone cried and the game died.
Anyway, so last night and this afternoon/evening I played a total of 30 games. I've been keeping a handwritten chart (yeah, alt-tabbing between SC2 and anything else is horrible) with name of opponent, map, opponent's race, and rank after the match, but I guess I'm at the point where winning or losing one game won't affect my ranking. So much for being close to silver.
Date: Thursday, Oct 28
Number of Ladder Games: 6
Starting Rank: 9
Ending Rank: 14
Highest Rank: 9
Lowest Rank: 15
Date: Friday, Oct 29
Number of Ladder Games: 24
Starting Rank: 14
Ending Rank: 6
Highest Rank: 6
Lowest Rank: 15
Total vs.:
Terran: 9
Protoss: 13 (inc. 1 Random)
Zerg: 8
Random: 1 (Protoss)
I should add a column to my chart for win/loss, since I can't tell now by the change in rank. I've been 6 for the last 9 games.
My shoulder hurts again. I've been just taking Advil for it. I've also more or less given up on exercise - it's waaaay too much to play StarCraft, exercise, and do the grownup stuff necessary to keep life rolling smoothly.
Highlights:
- There were a couple games I really should not have lost, except then I went through the replays and noticed that my opponent had a higher income than me because he had more harvesters. Moral: Constantly, constantly make SCVs, not just at the beginning.
- One Protoss kept harassing me but then I killed off his army with good unit composition. The problem was that I didn't press the advantage and then he came back with like 15 warp rays that were already warmed up from destroying my structures. Moral: Don't get comfortable or let up the pressure as long as you have a minimum critical mass of units.
- I've gotten caught with my pants down by nydus worms and warp prisms so many times on Blistering Sands. Moral: Always scout around the base on Blistering Sands or other maps where your base is very large.
Cute Game Opening Exchange of the Day:

Humor is what separates us from the machines.
Temporal's behind me at his desk playing the Brood War campaign. How quaint!
