I read it and enjoyed it.

I wish some people would try playing with hacks and slow speed, and write about it, so we would know what a 'perfectly' played game of starcraft would be like.

Interesting read. Detecting hackers became a bit easier with this read. I guess...lol

TL;DR
Does nuke anywhere still work? At least it should very easily detected in replays, as it uses (imho) nuke selection - an action that never happens in usual cases.

In general case, information disclosure hacks like maphack are undetectable in traffic / replays since they don't change client network behaviour, they only change displaying of information that client already has. The only way to detect it - antihack started on client's PC, like Iccup's one / Warded.

Very insightful post.
The only hack I ever used was the host hack : you can join a game and kick anyone, even the host.

This doesn't work against host. Actually you are the one who gets kicked.

Do newer hacks show hotkeys in bwchart? A couple of years ago I found that people who automined 5555 never used hotkeys. So when you see a very normal bwchart graph and no hotkeys it strongly indicated hack.
However recently (or well for almost a year) I dont see people without hotkeys anymore so I assume that the hackmakers have fixed this.

Does anyone know?

Map hacking clearly only helps a player get better when they are playing against a nonhacker. The article made it clear that hacker vs hacker games are unrealistic. So this means that you cant use the fact that uswest and useast are ridden with hackers justification for using hacks to get beter, as any games will only be to your bennifet when unfairley destryoing nonhackers
Why would I play sctoo when I can play BW?

Yeah, because some people are still oblivious to the fact that there are hacks for a 10+ year old game.

Seriously why does anyone even care that he hacked? You really play 1v1 melee on west/east thinking you're gonna get a straight up game? If it was on iccup I can see a plausible reason to be mad but even then it's still dumb.

Thanks for the interesting read.

There's a new nuke anywhere hack a few months old. BW really needs patching for things like this plus the minhack/500 drone spawn hack

I really don't want to encourage this kind of behavior anywhere on tl. Moved to blogs, might be closed at a later point.

I never really thought of maphacking as a good way to train/practice and improve. Might try this with a couple of friends where both of us maphack. I don't think I'd ever do this on ladder though, even BNet ladder.

I've had games on the close positions on python that go for several hatches before pool..... Even on ICCUP.

Fun times.

pvp with both players map hack sounds pretty fun.. it all comes down to better mechanics lol

Even without MH it's more or less like that. There aren't all that many possible openings in this matchup and almost anyone gets obs relatively quickly.
The only way I would see MH useful in PvP is for spotting sneaky DT rushes or proxy bullshit. If there's no cheese involved, MH is useless in PvP.

What about storm drops, army positioning, proxy gates, build order poker, and hidden expansions?
If it's stupid but it works, then it's not stupid* (*Or: You are stupid for losing to it, and gotta git gud)

This was an interested read, was pretty cool to see it from another point of view. (:
It's not something I'm ever interested in doing, but really cool reading it nonetheless. ^^

I was banned in a lot of servers in Counter Strike, wrongly I'll add. The main thing I got banned for was wall hacking. And not just wall hacking, but wall spamming and preaiming. Every time I turned a corner, I would default look to the most obvious spot people hide or peek at. All the common hiding spots? Check. I would spam walls that I knew people were coming up at, or had a high likelihood of someone hiding behind. It got people annoyed when you prefire on them.

If you hack, you suddenly grow aware of these positions, or similarly, timings in Starcraft. But I wasn't a hacker, and I knew this. So you can also say, if you are very experienced, and played a lot, you will also develop this innate ability to detect these things. The difference is, that there is this whole learning process, and why, and all the questions you should be asking and answering when you are learning this yourself. If you hack, you are simply given the answer.

Also I came to the realization that if you hack perfectly and stealthily, it's as though you're not using cheats at all.
There is no one like you in the universe.
