Can you please post some replays against good players? I mean B level koreans and above. I'm very interested to see what they look like.

O the Nuke Anywhere has been used on me so many times ≥≤. Imagine being a whale in Nuke The Whales UMS on battle.net just to see a nuke being controlled with a mouse to hit you exactly where you are when the ghost didn't even aim for you. Lately I've found that every Nuke The Whales game has this hack being used by a nuker. Also I got drone rushed with MH and another hack that abuses the fact that you get a drone back when canceling an extractor to make like 300+ drones from it that are then Multi hacked to rush attack and make a drone train killing everything in its path. I saw 2 threads on this 1 of which had a video. It is so annoying playing against hackers >_<

I think it'd definitely true that Map Hacking can be an effective tool for training when used for that purpose. It lets you constantly check the timing of your build vs. a training partner in real time. Obviously if its use was limited to this purpose in a private setting, I doubt anyone would really have a problem with it. The problem is mainly when people use it to ruin what was intended to be a competitive experience.

Of course hacking will probably never completely go away (at least not without some major changes to how these games operate) and a clever hacker will always be difficult to detect. I don't believe anyone on this forum is under the illusion that this is a problem that will go away either. At any rate, it's interesting to see someone do such a long write-up about their experience using these hacks.

But you can do shared vision anyway on melee. No maphacks required.

This is true... Why is it that in 12 years, I never thought of this? -_- Could have saved myself a lot of trouble years ago if I did. Funnier thing, none of my friends ever thought of this either... Maybe we're just stupid. LOL

I think the last time I used any hacks in Brood War was around the time PGTour started and I started to play more competitive games against random people. It seems from the OP that hacks have come a long way since then. The "Nuke Anywhere" thing seems pretty ridiculous. I wonder how they coded that to work...

Nuke anywhere seems like they just modded ghost nuke range. Just change 1 memory value.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There are three kinds of people in the world: those who can count and those who can't.

Interesting read. Your notes on hacking and how it improves timing sense sounds similar to what Testie said about it.

I wish we could just call 'hackers' cheaters instead. They get some sort of thrill for thinking they're some 'uber 1337 haxx0r' for googling and downloading some exe injector or whatever it is. =(
seriously next disrespectful comment in this blog is ip ban. Be happy or get the hell out. // SC2 is like playing with neutral-colored Play-Doh while BW is like colorful Legos.

Against 1 rax bunker rush with 5+ scvs: no need to even abandon natural here. I stop probe production on 15/17 supply and build a faster zealot, which pops right as the bunker is going up and alongside ~6 probes, bunkers gets taken down. GG.

well, dont know, what i saw in pro games is even though the protoss scouts the rush they just cant stop it. first wave 2-3 marines and 5 scvs -> zealot + probes might stop it first but with reinforcements (marines+vult) the zealot gets taken out and the bunker goes up.

e: can you upload some replays? like failed nex rush and the one vs 350apm korean
thx

i must admit

pvp with both players map hack sounds pretty fun.. it all comes down to better mechanics lol

Even without MH it's more or less like that. There aren't all that many possible openings in this matchup and almost anyone gets obs relatively quickly.
The only way I would see MH useful in PvP is for spotting sneaky DT rushes or proxy bullshit. If there's no cheese involved, MH is useless in PvP.
Time is precious. Waste it wisely.

people should stop whining over hacks. the only hack that is really annoying is the disc hack.
if you dont want to play hackers, stop playing east realm. easy as that =)
It does not need to be fun to be fun.
