Win/loss: 2/8.
Rank high: Bronze 24
Rank low: Bronze 33
Current: Bronze 27
Things I learned:
- People are bm. Two of my placement opponents were actively bm (one said "hf but not gl because I want you to die, sorry"), one was passively bm (no gg) and two were decent enough to say "u2" when I said "glhf." Maybe my expectations are too high.
- I won more games than I expected, probably because I took the time before playing the placement games to actually look up build orders. I'm very impressed by the Liquipedia.
- Winning is like doing a bump of coke (I'm imagining, anyway. I mean the coke part.).
- Not scouting means I tend to lose to DTs and cloaked Banshees (natch).
- It's really important to keep command centers/OCs/PFs alive.
I think this means I have my work cut out for me - just get the mechanics down and learn to adapt to different situations. I've been told to watch TLO for lessons in versatility and build order (thanks zoom) - that's on the docket for tomorrow.
Some good moments:
- I was very proud of myself when I came back after being thrown off a bit by a Zerg stealing my gas really early game.
- I was proud of myself for staying in a game for 36 minutes when afterwards I found out that I'd killed more units than my opponent had, even though I eventually lost. This was probably because he suicided some Vikings into my base not knowing I had turrets up, but I'll take what I can get.
Some not-so-good moments:
- My keyboard somehow refused to work at the beginning of my fifth placement match. I got it going again pretty quickly, but that and my lack of sufficient detection led to a close defeat.
- I kept getting supply blocked. I have to work on that.
- I keep aiming MULEs at the ground instead of at mineral patches. I'm really not used to this auto-mining thing yet.
- I wish siege tanks sounded as cool in SC2 as they do in SCBW.
Still considering the merits of playing Terran vs. another race, likely Protoss. I think I'll stick with Terran for a while, though, since turtling seems to be good for establishing early build order mechanics. But Protoss is so pretty ...

Temporal: Why would you want to pick a race based on whether it's pretty or not?
Me: Well, that's obviously not going to be the main factor, but it is somewhat significant. It's like picking the gender of your toon in an MMORPG - you're going to be spending a lot of time with the character, so you might want to consider playing a hot girl. Whose butt do you want to see running across fields for hours and hours?
Temporal: ... I never picked a female character because I felt too awkward about it.

Next steps:
- Work on build order execution.
+ Show Spoiler +Here's what I'm doing:
10 depot
12 rax
13 gas
15 orbital
16 2nd gas, 2nd depot
then 2nd rax, eng bay, factory soon after

later on another port/rax depending
expansion "when I feel safe," around maybe 40 supply - Watch TLO games (and maybe some BoxeR games omggg)
Places to crash for BlizzCon? No takers? I promise I'm not going to stab anybody in the middle of the night.
