It's fine. You're pro? Means it's your profession. Your job. You make your living off of it.

I got beef with the kids who say "pro room" when they're playing dota, and I know there isn't a single sponsored dota team in Korea.

pro/professional also counts as an adjective of skill ranking but is on the level of a professional of course. Not just it being a job.

There is, in fact, a way of saying that one's skill level is at a professional level, even if the person in question is not a professional. You can say "he plays at the professional skill level." See? Easy.

Word abbreviations are a part of every language. 'Pro' is actually an extremely common abbreviation especially in a sports context.
