One thing I was worrying over all summer was obtaining a dataset so I could write my BA. After all of that, I got a dataset.
It's not the best dataset to do what I was going to do (Time Allocation in Economies), but I'm hoping it'll do its job. Even if it's a poor dataset, it'll let me know what kind of things are possible, so I can be a lot more specific when I go around asking other servers for datasets
Now I don't have to bombard tlpd to get a dataset for my backup idea :3
I met Mystlord and Ursadan-n-Pals the other day over lunch. Mystlord looked a lot less nerdier than I thought. Maybe it's because he was in China so he wasn't a pale kid who gives off the impression he's been indoors all day playing touhou. It was fun talking about Starcraft IRL though
KeSPA recently released some statement (according to some gameplus article) about the players who are transitioning tO SC2. It's kinda laughable.
"We hope the players make wise decisions... Starcraft 2 isn't recognized as an official event in Korea's e-Sports system, and so we hope the players will decide after looking a bit further in the future"
WTF KeSPA. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? I know you guys have the attitude where you guys pretend that e-Sports can't exist without you guys but seriously????
Maybe these players won't be leaving SC1 completely and would stay with their teams if you were a bit more creative and flexible negotiating. Then again, all it takes is one party to be creative and flexible to get negotiations rolling, so fuck you too, Blizzard and Gretech.
Oh, and according to the same article, Boxer seems to have "been caught" enjoying the game. It looks more and more likely Boxer is the 3rd old gamer moving on.
Speaking of Boxer, he and his gf will be a part of a famous talk show in Korea (놀러와). I'm quite excited since I watch that show anyway, and because I think it'll be rather awkward. Maybe Boxer will let something slip there.
Last week's episode of Dreamer had Flash. I haven't watched it yet but I'm hoping it'll be interesting? I've learned a lot of nifty things about progamers watching Dreamer and got to know them a lot better so I'm hoping this episode will reverse my opinion that Flash is a boring, super manner, cheesy robot.
Random funny things I remember from Dreamer/other shows with progamers
iloveoov has a kid. A KID. What. He's adorable. Apparently his wife made some furniture randomly. iloveoov said he just walked in and saw his wife with some tools making it. I can just imagine the reaction.
The worst thing Reach has done? He lost in the semifinals, drank a strong bottle of soju, drunk dialed Kingdom and he just ran laps around some park. Yeah, he's literally straight as an edge if that's the worst thing he's done.
Stork has hemorrhoids. Apparently the first day he was in Samsung, he had surgery a few days before, but because it was his first day, he sat down and practiced even though he couldn't. Next thing he knows, his pants were red. He had to rush to the bathroom. Stork implies this problem is common amongst progamers.
Yellow is awesome. His twitter is the funniest one of all too. He may be the reason why everyone on Ace has a twitter. Yellow - Anytime interactions are absolutely hilarious.
I read a pretty good essay about Effort and his retirement on Fomos message boards. I think that's the most intelligent thing I've seen on that board.
School is starting soon and I'm wondering whether or not I should take it easy or sit in on the classes I've planned on sitting in on. I also have to job hunt and work on BA and work 15 hours a week while doing this so I'm wondering how much energy I'll have by the end of it.. Oh right, i have to participate in this fed challenge thing too -_-
speaking of job hunting I better get started soon T_T
Recettear is a very fun little game, despite it being so simple and formulaic. You get to play as a shopkeeper who buys and sells stuff and uses daily fluctuations in price to make profits. You can also run dungeons to farm items too. I think I will save this game and have my kids play it one day. I was actually really excited playing this game for some reason
Pokemon Black and White is out! The game looks exciting and different, and I'm really happy Nintendo finally made the game more strategic by revealing teams before the battle. No more dedicated leads, that was the dumbest part of D/P.
Speaking of Pokemon, there's a lot in common between going from BW -> SC2 and going from Pokemon RSE -> Pokemon DPPt, competitively, anyway. DPPt made the game so much more specialized with its Physical/Special split, getting rid of old RSE concepts of generalized tanks/walls that were so common in RSE. The specialization introduced so many things you must defend against that trying to play DPPt is literally just making your Pokemon broken to the other Pokemon and sweeping, making it a short one shot strategic game rather than the longer more strategic battles you saw in RSE.
At least SC2 doesnt have critical hits.
time to get back to work OTL
