***************************************************** SPOILER WARNING -- Please don't read if you wish to watch the GSL in the future or don't know the results of the round of the 32 ******************************************************
Seriously as soon as all the non-koreans were eliminated I lost all interest in the GSL. I hope there are more non-koreans in the next GSL. It's not like I don't like Korean players or anything, but in a typical American fashion I only care about the sport till everyone from America is eliminated (oh and TLO I was really hoping he would win).

Hell no, why would I stop at ro16? only quality players left.

It's obviously not worth watching anymore!!

Not saying its not worth watching. Just saying that I'm kinda bored of it. Who do i cheer for?
As long as you didn't pay for GSL. I personally care for top tier level play be it american or not.
competition tends to get more fierce/competitive once more players are eliminated not enough? but gsl hasn't been worth it for me to wake up unlike BW
Eh, I'm still watching, even without foreigners in it... I'm really looking forward to some top level zerg play after all the comments that they're underpowered
i'm indeed sad that idra and TLO are out. But i am more sad that its mostly tvt with a few pvt's. I'll probably still watch the rest though.

If my team gets knocked out before the playoffs/finals or whatever i'm probably still going to watch the finals just for entertainment purposes even if I don't really have a team/person to cheer for but if you feel differently then fair enough.
So Koreans are raping everyone at this game, too? I haven't watched anything of the GSL so I don't know much, but how many foreigners are left exactly?

I agree you on this, but there is no way i wouldn't watch RO16 to the end. Myself, i rather watch Koreans play than most of all Europeans/American players except some.
I dunno, some how its not that interesting to watch them play.

Tlo was the last one. So none.
Tester is still in so I have someone to root for. But even if he wasn't I'll still watch just for the high level of play. Really, watching high level Starcraft is just amazingly fun even if you don't know who the players are.
Are you kidding? watch ANY prime player left in this tourny, and he will give a show far better than TLO could hope for.
Ya TLO has some really nifty tricks up his sleeve, but in terms of pure mechanics he's still just a foreigner to true starcraft players in Korea.
I have high hopes for him though, he does show that he is remarkable at thinking on his feet mid game, something that some macrobots are not quite as proficient.
But seriously, I cannnnoooot wait for the round of 16, hongunprime is sick sick good, as well as check tester intotherainbow...fuck it EVERYBODY in the RO16 is a monster, and it will be intense seeing them battle it out.
Inca vs tester would be the most insane PvP in history.

I watch but I don't really care anymore.
So far when good players have gone against each other this tournament the games have been amazing. The lackluster games were mostly due to poor play by the eliminated people. Now basically only really good players are left.
This is normally when I'd START watching a tournament, not stop watching it!
Already stopped watching it as well. Level of play in a lot of games in previous rounds was far below even mid-diamond kids on US server. And all the foreigners are out...soo...dunno. I might still watch some games, but most were boring imo compared to brood war games.
It was sort of impossible for me to watch in the first place. 4-8AM EST on a school day? I'd try to wake up early and catch TLO or Idra from time to time but it's just not possible to keep up with it.
So all these hopes for equality among foreigners and Koreans with a new game, and this is what happens. ONLY Koreans in a RO16. I don't know whether to laugh or not.
I can still cheer for the remaining zergs.
Once they're out I will probably lose interest.
i watch it when i can, but it's really early in the morning for me & i have class in the morning
My friend said the exact same thing I don't really understand why. The most enjoyable and best matches were Korean players.
Well there goes your money in e-sports, all goes back in the pockets of Koreans.
I did, but only because TLO dropped out, I didnt really care about the others anyway. So far he has been the only player whose play entertained me on the level of a better BW player. I'll probably watch some recommended VODs or something from the tourney later on, we'll see.
I watched a few games just to have something going on in the background whilst browsing TL. SC2 doesn't really excite me much as a spectator game so the GSL doesn't appeal to me hugely, however I'll probably watch the finals. I couldn't care less if all the players were from the dominican republic, korea or the USA, its the game more than anything else that discourages watching.
I'm still gonna watch the protoss matches since it's always good for inspiration for you own play, esp. now that most of the bad players are weeded out. Also because imho there arent many amazing protoss players outside of korea, except for huk kiwi socke.
Still a bit sad about TLO and idra everytime I think about gsl though.

Have you seen the Ro16 lineups? It's going to be awesome, there are so many really strong players.
If you have an interest in watching top level SC2 (with good commentary) why would you not watch the GSL?
I stood up, swore and clapped a lot during TLOs games. I don't feel the same about the Korean players but I'll watch for sure. We just need to get to know them better, and what better a time than high-stakes matches between the best in the world
I started watching GSL after all the non-koreans (low skills) were eliminated. I hope there are less low skill players (non-koreans) in the next GSL.
I'm going to say I still watch the GSL because I like watching SCII, not because I only like watching foreigners play, even though I love to watch them play.
it sucks that no foreigners are left theres no question /// but there will be some amazing games still left to be played. idk if ill pull any more all-nighters but ill definitely check out the vods and interviews.

Agreed. I don't know what these guys are blabbing about but the Koreans were the best players and had the best games. They're probably masking the "us foreigners suck compared to koreans" by saying "im watching but don't care/lost interest."
In terms of pure SC2 skills, the ro16 is extremely exciting. Maybe it's the teenagers who watch the GSL to see their non-korean e-celebs.

I don't think its fair to generalize that much at this stage, many of the koreans in the RO64 and RO32 were fucking abysmal - had TLO played someone else, he may well have got to the RO16.
I do broadly agree with the KR>Other argument though

I watched the first day because I happened to be up when it aired. Now I'm never available when it's on and I don't want to pay them directly for the rights to the VODs. While I generally support the idea that money can be exchanges for goods I don't want to help set the precedent that to watch a tournament you either need to be available at 5-8am or pay a fee determined directly by the people broadcasting the event.
Ill still watch the free VOD, but with no more TLO im not cheering for anyone
I'm surprised koreans weren't as dominating as I'd expect them to be. Once more semi pros and pros start playing the game it will improve drastically, will definitely be more fun to watch. It's decent as it is already. Props to TLO for making it this far.
Since I don't care anymore I don't watch. All I wanted to see was how far the foreigners could go. Not very entertaining games either, it's mostly Dan and Nick that makes it worth watching at all.

I feel for you americans though. GSL starts right when I get home from class most days, perfect for chilling and eating for awhile once I get home.
With ex-Korean Broodwar progamers like July and Nada, foreigners will have a even harder time in the next GSL.
yeah after idra and most of the remaining zergs got knocked-out, I really lost interest.
For me them being eliminated won't change anything. Of course it would be be fun if TLO or Idra would have stayed in it a while longer, but it won't be less entertaining because of that.
I am still watching because it is great entertainment. It also helps me see what other styles there are to play.
Hopefully the GSL does a good enough show that other big leagues get more sponsorships ie: MLG, IEM and maybe some new organisations. Think of it in terms of Football. You have the GSL (Your European nation's national league (EPL, La Liga, Series A, Bundesliga and so on(Big name players)). MLG and IEM as a smaller league like(The SPL(Some big players but not as many and a lot that have potential)).
i'll probably watch the finals just to see how big of an audience sc2 gets
did people seriously expect non-koreans to have a real chance against the koreans? i was surprised tlo made it as far as he did (tho tbh i didnt watch a single game, only checked results). + Show Spoiler +the fact that he won a game really astonished me, not saying he sucks, but its like that time ret took a game off nada
Dunno why you'd stop watching now, the matches are gonna keep getting better and better. >_< Will be cheering for the ex-WC3 players.
i'll keep watching the GSL until TLO drops out. which may never happen and i want him to win the tournament!

Only 4 foreign players started off in the round of 64. The odds were pretty stacked against them
To be honest, the timing of the GSL made it hard for me to watch anything apart from the first match in any of the days. When it started at 9pm, and I had to be at work at 11pm, it's no question which one I have to do.
Now that the non-Koreans have gone, I guess I've lost interest in the GSL. At least when IdrA/TLO were in, I'd make the effort to watch their Game 1 matches after the fact, and if they were the first game of the day, I'd watch the series before working. I don't really know enough about the Korean scene to decide if matches are worth watching before I go to work; and the inability to watch anything apart from the first game when you don't watch it live (without having to pay for it) does sap the will somewhat.
I still think that the GSL is a good tournament though, in spite of my lamentations.
I have to say I wouldn't have been nearly as interested in BW progaming without the chance to see the players themselves and the drama behind it. All the Koreans (except for a few of course) seem like some random ID instead of an actual player. Hopefully this will change over time as the fans get to know the players, their personalities, and their styles a bit better, but as for now I don't really know who to cheer for. Takes a lot of the excitement out of the game, even if the skill level has increased.
D= I'm kind of disheartened by most of the replies here... Everyone seems to not really care anymore, or lost huge interest simply because there's no foreign players left? I'll admit that I too was terribly upset at the loss of each foreigner, but come on, we've been watching 100% koreans for YEARS.
There's some crazyskilled players left in the tournament, and the most quality games are yet to come. There's so much shit these guys do that I don't even comprehend, and I'm a relatively skilled diamond player. Many of these players have the potential to end up being the next Boxer or Jaedong, and I'm sure we'll be seeing them again in subsequent seasons of the GSL.
It may seem slightly less entertaining due to the complete lack of knowledge of these players, but just wait until next season, where half the names are the same and you start to put faces, playstyles, personalities, and rivalries with the wash of names you've been hearing over the past month or so.
The GSL is fucking epic, and it'll be even more epic if you keep watching it and familiarize yourself with the currently unidentified korean players.

i don't really understand.. is this some form of covert racism? you don't want to watch korean pro gamers play? did you just not watch PL, OSL, or MSL all these years?
one of the things i liked about starcraft was that [real life] race was lost behind computers and skill [and manners i guess] was the true measure of a person.

It's totally understandable in one sense, and I don't think it has anything to do with racism.
If they made baseball 2.0 tomorrow, and it had 20 new teams + the Tigers, and the Tigers didn't make it to the playoffs, you'd likely be quite disappointed (assuming you're a Tigers baseball fan) and a lot less interested in the baseball 2.0 playoffs.
That being said, as I already stated, the games would still be epic, and after a season or two of watching, you'd become familiar with these other teams and start to enjoy the games much more.
So keep watching!

See thing is, they simply aren't pro, in fact some of the time you feel like your watching the old BW school league.
Quite frankly, I'm just not emotionally invested in the players any more, I'll catch it if I'm awake, but Cellawerra, torch, artosis, Idra and now TLO going out, has really killed my enthusiasm.
If Nada does make an appearance in the next GSL, as is rumoured, I will be watching GSL religiously.

too bad theWind lost, I met this guy on West randomly a few years ago, I think he used name "suvid". That's when I learned that 9 pool isn't an autowin vs a 12 hat lol, he embarrassed me so bad. Guy is really cool, we talked and hung out together, he actually let me obs his games and played people that I knew. Hope he gets his revenge next time, that game 2 was sweet

one of the things i liked about starcraft was that [real life] race was lost behind computers and skill [and manners i guess] was the true measure of a person. Most people watch because they have someone to cheer for. It's not only about the level of play that the players will produce. I mean with the players in broodwar you read their interviews and you get to know their personalities and you get a feeling of who you want to watch. It is also easier to feel connected to foreigners for the same reasons. In the GSL I don't think we know much about the players left at this point so we really have nothing to connect with and so we don't really care.
People also watch based on matchups. Right now it's mostly Terrans and Protoss playing each other so there's no entertainment for people who cheer for Zerg. Oh yeah and a lot of people think the game's kinda broken.

I don't think there's much of a drive by the SC2 community to get to know the korean players at all ;p

A LOT of the push for SC2 instead of BW is/was because foreigners could compete with Koreans. When foreigners get shut out of the biggest tournament, it's a black mark for that line of thought.

I've been cheering for Koreans for years, I don't mind doing it for a few more with a new game.

I actually did pay for the GSL . It's only 20 bucks and i like to support eSports. Not regretting the payment cause it was awesome while Idra, Artosis, Torch and TLO were playing but now I just don't care enough to watch it. That's my problem. I probably still will but just the replays and not live. I guess Tester is fun to watch.
I stopped watching since Idra went out, since I thought that no one else had a realistic chance of getting to the finals, no offence to TLO.
Well if it's on and I'm eating lunch then I'll probably watch the games, but won't be very interested.
Lol at how everyone's instantly assuming that koreans must somehow be better. Anyone who's watched the games or even knows about tournament and game records automatically understands that IdrA and TLO stand with the best of them.
"Ro16 are the best therefore they are entertaining" - uh, not necessarily. Oh hey zomg this guy has immaculate macroing, he has a lottt of units now zomggg sooo exciting.....yeah, no.
And seriously, anyone who saw that first game of TLO against hyperdub is seriously insane if they're claiming that Korean games have been the only entertaining or even the most entertaining ones. That game was for the ages.

Don't feel the same excitement to be up at 2am. Will watch the Tester/ Cool games though + final with my friend on his vod account.
edit: It took some cheese to knock the big foreigners out, though to be fair Hyper lost the first set more than TLO looked super sexy winning it and Cheese against Idra really is standard. (I mean idra literally redefines cheese )
I'm not gone forever, It'll be awhile before I see enough games to have a favorite korean. Without free vods though, that's not necessarily a guaranteed thing.
Edit 2: 815!!!!!!!!!!!! Or was it 518 ><

It definitely wasn't as great as casters hyped it to be, huge mistakes by the korean guy, he had the win secured. It's definitely a surprise the way things turned out to be after that opening, yet it's not "for the ages". In a year all these games and builds will seem outdated and funny. Plus TLO didn't get to play one of the better guys, his opponent was an underdog to begin with.

3 non-koreans in a tournament of 64. Given no national bias, it'd be extremely unlikely for a non-korean to win or even get extremely far. The GSL so far has shown non-korean players are easily capable at being competitive in the korean scene, and that a good number of the korean players are worse players.
Yes, there's less interest now that more known players are gone, but it's a new scene and the familiar faces have to develop through exposure and results.
NaDa took a game off TLO in an already close series.
That's HUGE if you think how much TLO, a top foreigner, has/had practiced at that point in comparison to Nada.
I think foreigners have a very real chance at beating Koreans in sc2, but we'll have to see which teams send their players out for the next GSL. dimaga, sen (if he counts), demuslim, etc would do very very well imo
having all the foreigners out of the gsl isn't surprising given the size of it (only 3 foreigners total, it'd be surprising if they did get through barring some huge skill differential). im still watching because cool, tester, etc, are just amazing players that are worth watching, even if it is sc2.

This is not huge. Savior also took a game off Flash in an all-stars showmatch, that sure didn't mean his ZvT was soaring.

Low skill ceiling Lag Only get to see huge balls of units 1a into each other

im still gonna watch but theres no one im really rooting for anymore.

I'll keep watching until no Zergs remain!
after what happend and the sc1 players transferring to sc2 I really dont see foreigners doing good in GSL2 I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally think im wrong but thats the way I see it..
I can't watch live because it's on at 4 p.m and I don't leave work until 7. When IdrA and TLO was still in I waited for VODs of their games. Now I only check the LRs even though I don't really know who is who, neither do I care about the results lol ust updating info.
I hope that foreigners do well in the next GSL, though I highly doubt that any can make it to Ro8 ...
I didnt care that much to begin with, but my interest is about the same or slightly higher now that its Ro16. Supposedly better games incoming.
I'm not as gungho about the foreigner angle as most. I see where it comes from, but SC2 is new to korea still, and they arent like dominating favourites. I dont have the "root for the underdog!" thing going yet. My main sentimental favorites were TLO(German) and Cella(Korean), I didnt automatically root for people because they werent Korean. Also, I am not that convinced good foreign results will explode programing in the West I'm sure it helps but there are larger factors imo that winning stuff wont help. Give me good players that are likeable/funny and I'll root for em, regardless of their passport.
I am still interested in ex-bw pro results (eg tester, cool), as well as seeing more from the ones that have had impressive shows(ogstop, clide). Any enthusiasm, or lack thereof, is mainly due to my enjoyment level of watching SC2, and not the foreigner factor at this point in time.
If only there was BW to watch. It's a shame that people were pushing for SC2 over BW because they believed foreigners had a chance. Now what are we left with?
