I have played games since i was still young.
Loved games so much even till this day.
The first PC game that i played was Counter Strike, i believe it was 1.2 or 1.3...
Not sure...
Then i played many games, mainly MMORPG's and casual games. When i turned 13, i got my first computer. I never had a computer, usually i game at Cyber's or PC Bangs.
I didn't have any games, so my friend lend me his starcraft disc.
Wow! It was amazingly fun game! Yes, i am noob, played with cheats and with bots only at that time. Time passes, i forgot about BW.
Then last year i rediscovered BW. It was because i heard that starcraft 2 gonna come out soon. Somehow, someway, i discovered iCCUP while surfing the net. I began to replay broodwar and practice (with bots, lol) just to get accustomed to the game once more and to prepare to play on iCCup. I did not know any builds or strategy at all!
My first iCCUP game, it was a TvT, got steamrolled pretty badly. I did not know that people use tanks, gol or vults TvT, i used MnM. The next 10 games, were also disastrous.
After discovering liquipedia and TL(hurray!)few weeks later, i began practising those builds and stuff.
Next iCCup season begins, i still lose, never won any games at all like about (0-12)!
Still gained some experience at least but was ashamed so i clearstats everytime i lose.
Last season, i played iCCUP again. Not a single win at all despite improvements. I played with my friend or against BWAI, practicing together, got an APM of 150 with EAPM of 130+, my micro is far better and macro'd well and watched plenty of VOD's.
So, my point is, after about 3 seasons of SC:BW,
i never won a game!
Its like, like 0-40 something....
Now, there is this mental block, i don't dare to play BW multiplayer online anymore.
Its tough, this season i hadn't played a game, though i really want to play it badly!
Never winning a game really is demotivating!
I need something to motivate me now so that i would be brave enough to play BW again!
Most of my games were against asians, like Korean's or Chinese. Well, im in asia after all, timezone difference only an hour.
Hmm, i guess that's all of my rant.
Thank you if you read this to the end.

You just have to man up and play man, you're just one of many anonymous dudes on the internet, no one on iccup is going to see your bad stats and come round to your house and laugh at you for it. Simply continue playing, learning and enjoying the game and you will start achieving victories.

Good luck

oh god that sucks. a lot. every time i take a game off a korean i feel happy and immediately exit broodwar for at least ten minutes just to savor the feeling >_>

and so far i've only done it pvt, pvp, and tvz. maybe try finding some west coast us players to practice with? or anywhere really, there's always a time when you could.

Hook up with someone skilled and nice, play them on a single matchup ~50 games in a week, lose them all but get the setup of your own style in. You won't have the mental block since it's just practice and unrealistic to win there anyway; goal is not to win, but to get better.
D ranks will feel easier after such excercise, and surely you'll be able to win games. It might still be tough and you could have a bad win rate, but clearly there will be some success as well.

Also, play more! If you don't like the previous suggestion, go on b.net and play progressive, from "LT noobs" -> "LT" -> "python noobs" -> "python" -> "play/obs desti or smth" -> Iccup, starting from whatever level you're getting ~50% win rate on currently. If you can't win anywhere, play PCs until you can take 3 on by yourself and without mass cannons/sunkens/bunkers.

I think playing on b.net is a good suggestion. Sure there may be some hackers, but there will also be some players your level.

Once you get the win, though, it'll feel so good I think you'll be back for more.

Just realize that losing in order to get there is perfectly normal.

0-40 isn't that bad man! I remember before I even got on iccup I played on bnet, I played like 250 games vs HORRENDOUS noobs and still had stats no better than like 75-125. Then I got on iccup and didn't win much there either at all (tho my bnet games helped me, I managed to win a few games).

Just keep playing, 40 games isn't nearly enough!

Just kill your emotions and play games, don't worry about the past or w/e (though to go 0-40 with 150 apm is terribly unlucky) emotions never helped you macro.

the last season I've ever played on iccup I went like 8-30 on the first two days. I proxy hatched in every single game. It was annoying to lose so much but the games I managed to win put a smile on my face. Just find a way to enjoy the game, try weird stuff and have fun. Win or lose doesnt really matter if you are having a good time.

at the risk of being temp banned, let me say this; Malaysians are about as genetically bad at Starcraft as koreans are genetically good.

i mean....historically, if you look at your Malaysian Starcraft delegation at WCG over the past 10 years, your country's finest player, John Rambo, never made it out of his group and compiled a record of about 4 wins and 37 losses in group stages Not the end of the world though....there are other games than just Starcraft:Brood War

and as long as you personally play (lose) for fun...then its all good. also, iCCup is a bit of a harsh environment for n00bs...so i suggest you get on the regular b.net. Moreover, playing strictly against fellow Malaysians would increase your win ratio significantly.

Iccup may be appreciated a lot on TL, but when you're beginner, playing public games on east/euro would be a better idea for a starter. Don't get discouraged by iccup, its just really harsh for BW newcomers. If you're gonna play it anyways, then take a break once in a while and play some UMS games, BW has great UMS maps.

As for TvT, I had similar experience around 2002. Been in a clan that was slowly transferring from bgh to hunters and some low money maps and one gamer contained my marines and medics with tank setup. It was on Lost Temple and I was at 9 o clock ;-) It should be mentioned that build orders back in the time were more newbie friendly as fast expansion builds weren't so standard. These kind of builds require more mouse/keyboard speed just to maintain production.

Hi fellow countryman : )

you need to play ZvZ. keke. On a serious note, you need to avoid koreans (if you're so worried about records) and try to find some low latency games (I know its hard) and just play how you wanna play it

and watch Day[9]'s older BW videos for inspiration if possible : )
SC2 is to BW, what coke is to wine.

Yeah ICCup is ... really not the place to start playing. The skill level is already a lot higher than USE/USW/EU servers.

Like mentioned already, just join "LT noob only" games (or make them yourself) for a bit and keep playing games. Granted there may be a few punks who are ICCup level but join just to demolish someone who really is a beginner but usually they're not that great either.

Don't discourage yourself because nobody is ever good at anything that's difficult right off the bat. Think of this as growing pains and keep on plowing through those matches. Watching pro games is also a fun and easy way to figure out what the leet Koreans are doing in their matches and should give you an idea of what "cutting edge build" they're using nowadays.

Good luck dude.

I learned to nitpick the right opponents. It's kinda hard though since there aren't that many bad players worse than me.

Well if you quit BW at least it will be easier for you to quit the next thing you do. And before you know it you will be a damn good quitter.

I recently relapsed to iccup knowing I would be utter shit. Being away from the game so long you makes you feel so freaking clueless maybe thats how copper feels like? Well I played 4-5 games last night against a korean who was pretty cool and he told me about stats reset . I got owned so badly TT but when I took a game it felt incredible.

Lol 40 games for three seasons is barely anything. You basically started from nothing (in terms of competitive play), so I wouldn't be too surprised that you haven't won a game.

Look up the iccup commands that limit what players can join your games by points so that you can only allow cpu-level or D- players.

When my buddy got me into BW, it was hell for a newbie to try to be any good at it, I mean seriously I feel like you have to have some kind of innate gamer ownage particle in your body to even keep up with a B- player if you start out now in BW.

Me and him played tons of practice games in which I get demolished in. But whenever I held off a push, scouted very well, defended off friggin 3 - 5 prong attacks from the blazing Terran 400 APM-age, I felt so happy. It's well worth it if you enjoy challenges.

I swear it is so easy to pick out who played BW competitively and who didn't just by watching how well they controlled their units. The "small" fundamentals that the B- players have, have a HUGE impact on the noobs in SC2.

It's the anticipation of fear and loss that is strong. Find a friend who will play with you and have him share vision. I guarantee you it will let you improve while removing your fear.

OK! Thanks for the advice everyone!
Feeling much better, though of course,
the fear of losing does not disappear.
Nada quoted, we should hate losing, but not fear it.
So, i'll take what he says as main inspiration.

40 games on Iccup is nothing bro. The trick is finding someone who is willing to play with you and spend time to develop your game.

Playing BW is like playing piano. There is no way that you can improve in such a short time. But with a good partner, you can get decent in about 6 months i would say.

Can you post a replay? I'm having a REALLY REALLY hard time believing that you have 130 eAPM and yet can't win a single game, considering I'm C- with 100 eAPM
