Some of the user streams here on TL have such high quality that when I am watching the stream in full screen, I would instinctively try to move the units on my screen... then realize I am not playing the game.

CellaWeRRa's stream @ PC Bang and Sen's ustream channel are quite good even though they are across the world!

Seeing that free user streams have higher quality than several paid to pay streams, I believe organizers such as ESL and GOM can possibly learn a lot/work with ustream to provide higher quality HQ streams!


Given the popularity of streams and development of esports. I wonder if Blizzard would invest in adding live-broadcast and commentary technology into SC2?

Replays already track camera movements - how difficult is it to incorporate sound data and perhaps some simple text/mark data into the same file?

Instead of streaming video, Blizzard has the option to develop something which stream game data along with voice and camera movements. If streaming of a high quality video is possible, I don't see how the streaming so such data (which takes a lot less bandwidth) would be that "difficult".

Given the negative "make more money" image of Activision Blizzard, this is unlikely to happen. After all, they do not even have the time to implement chatrooms even though they delayed the game for a year for Bnet2.0...

the problem with the tourneys is that most are for-profit. many have ads and other sponserships that don't benefit ustream&etc at all. so that's why they don't use those services - officially. when you see things like the intel qualifiers on ustream, they are usually by individual casters with no ads or anything related to the official, final tournament.

as per the "blizztv" idea ... seeing how blizzard is controlling nearly every aspect of sc2 and sending everything through their servers, i seriously doubt we'll see such a feature. in contrast to sourcetv, it was upto the server to transmit the data to viewers, not valve.

It's not too big a deal when it comes to streams. It's not like BW where it will lag because the distance across the world has a second or two delay. The livestream servers(probably ustream too) are located in the US I believe, so the distance should be irrelevant to you since it's the servers that are uploading the service to your computer, not Cella/Sen themselves. The loading time and choppiness of a stream should be the same for any stream using the same service(livestream, ustream, justin.tv, glhf.tv, etc) unless the servers are located somewhere else in the world. In that case, it'll take a second or two longer to make a connection to the servers probably. It just takes Sen/Cella a second or two longer to connect to the servers when starting their stream, since it's their distance that actually has some influence.
If you watch Godzilla backwards it's about a benevolent lizard who helps rebuild a city and then moonwalks into the ocean.

Sen did a little experiment where he opened up his own stream and move the mouse around. If there is very high latency between him and ustream then the mouse would also show the latency, no?

SC2 has many more years to come: the growth of esports goes hand in hand with this game. How much blizzard is willing to invest into the business determines its success!

I dont see why major tournament organizers cannot cooperate with streaming services: infrastructures are there, why reinvent the wheeel?
