we let our rabbit outside every day and she would come by the door at night and we let her in, but two nights ago she didn't show up. she's done that before, where she just lies down somewhere else outside, and when we looked outside and couldn't find her, we just let it go
normally during the day she shows up randomly hopping around or eating something or lying in the shade somewhere but we didnt see her again all day
so last night when my brother looked outside he found her lying down near some banana trees, but not moving so he picked her up and brought her inside. when she tried to walk, her back legs weren't working, and she couldn't move around with just her front legs (rabbits are really back heavy). she would post up with her two front legs, eyes big and wild, try to walk, but be unable to drag her weight, and lie down. i put her in her cage and we decided to take her to the vet the next day (this morning). as i watched her in her cage i noticed she couldn't turn around or move towards her water or food bowl so i sat there and brought them to her whenever she tried to pull herself toward them
my dad took her to the vet this morning, and when he came back he told me she has arthritis all along her back side, and she fractured one of her vertebrae in her back which is the reason for the paralysis. they said even if she did heal, because of her age, she probably would not be able to walk around very well - and most likely they'd have to put her to sleep in a couple of days anyway. so my dad told them to put her to sleep
i drove to the vet and when i got there they were in the middle of euthanizing her, they had given her the anesthetic and were about to give her the injection when they brought her out for me. she was very calm because of the anesthetic, but her face was one she got when she was usually frustrated. i pet her for maybe 5-10 minutes when she started to grind her teeth (which is a sign that a rabbit is content), so after a few more minutes i called in the nurse to take her back in. as soon as i stood up to press the button, she jerked up and looked at me, almost in a panic, as if she knew what i was doing, so when the nurse came in i pet her some more. the nurse said they dont let people come in when they euthanize "exotic" animals because it can be very rough, so they didn't let me go in with her.
i stayed in the waiting room for maybe 5 more minutes, and i heard some ladies in the back laughing which kind of pissed me off
then i went to school
she was 9 years old, i got her at a hair salon from a family friend when i was 13

 sorry to hear about that. Losing a longtime pet is like losing a family member. But yeah, blogs next time.

Be happy that your rabbit was euthanized... I hope that's how I'll die when I'm old

To answer your first question, yes probably.
On the bright side, though, your parents didn't put down your pet rabbit because "he's old anyways" (my mom was terribly allergic lol).

Always sad to see a family member put down. Sometimes I want to murder my own puppy for biting chunks out of the wall or doing something else bad but when I stop to think about I would cry like a baby if she was suddenly gone.

i had 2 pet rabbits, well they were my sister, but same thing. anyway we had to give them both away when i went to college.. sorry to hear this.

I hear where you are coming from, I have had a cat since it was born, she's 15 and a half now, and while pretty healthy she can't catch our pesty mice every day now. Or jump onto our fence. Either the rats have all died, and the fence is gettin taller. But i am still depressed knowing that in 3+ years she'll be gone.

Condolences. I read through your sad story though that you gave her an awesome life and I hope that makes it worth everything. Having the vets laughing is quite insensitive, if it was about your rabbit.

i went to see the body a few hours after they euthanized her, (i opted not to see her right after they did it), and she looked just like she was alive. as soon as they brought her out in a towel, only her nose and whiskers were pointing out and i immediately broke down, i don't think i've ever cried so much in my life, it was embarrassing. i did feel a little better after seeing her body though, it kind of helped it settle in a little bit
i'm not sure what to do with the body, they charge $100 to cremate her and return the ashes, $25 to keep the ashes, and free i guess to just give the body back. i miss her so much
i feel like leaving her at the vet's office is abandoning her, even though she's already dead. i'm a pretty proud rational atheist etc kind of person, but there are so many irrational things i want to do that i am amazed.
