"The Official video to 'Lights Out' by Rick Astley. Rick returns with his first single for 17 years. The video was shot at the Manchester Evening News Arena and was directed by British Comedian Peter Kay. The song was written by Andrew Frampton and Rick Astley." (as taken from the video description)
Rick Astley internet sensation, unintentional creator of the "Rickroll" is back all grown up to start a new musical career with a new sound (thank the internet and all it's glory).
Anyways he's back to bring us GOOD MUSIC. I'm quite a fan of this song and hope that you can think of Rick in a new light after this.
Edit:This is all I could find through Google news at the moment, he's also working on composing more songs and becoming a somewhat legitimate musician.
Not really my type of music at all, but I still kinda like it. Excellent use of his random internet fame to make a comeback, haha. I hope he does well. Video makes me dizzy though. D=
I wouldnt say good music per say but I can see how easily this could get radio airplay its very similar to many of the top 40 radio friendly songs. Its much less cheesy than his 80s hits but that was his appeal his cheesiness. Maybe after some time this kind of music will be seen as cheesy as his 80s hits.
I'm honestly really fucking impressed. He was reluctant at first but now he's acknowledged the incredible potential that anonymous boards and internet culture have given him. Its inspirational that someone who has been out of the lime light for so long has been given the power to come back with a vengeance thanks to internet communities.
I'm impressed with how seriously he (and obviously his team) are taking this. The sound is very contemporary and not just a rehash of his stuff from the 80's. I hope this does well, he's better than the fucking rubbish they play on the radio that's for sure.
I've always like his song "Never gonna give you up" and I was never sure why everyone made fun of it lol. This new song isn't bad, it's alright. Too much spinning in the video! The song sounds like Ronan Keating and Cold play mixed together or something

ICA is the new rick roll. And possibly superior to the original.

Although the Rick Astley shuffle is missing, which is one of the key components of the RickRoll.
So Rick Astley went backwards in terms of voice maturity? Usually singers' voices get a lot deeper as they get older. I guess its to be understood then that he was singing in a really exaggerated deep voice during his prime...
also....er...yeah this sounds like churned out pop garbage

And he hasn't aged too bad in the last 23 years O_o.
His gestures are indeed hilarious. But god, this song is so generic. Pretty good production, but still. His voice is still awesome though, he just gotta channel the 80's cheesy feel.
Well it's good that rick astley is using the overwhelming support of the internet the jump start his career again. He does sound very different though; I don't even recognize him anymore.

His random gesturing bothered me MUCH less than the fact that the camera in every single cut is constantly rotating around him counter-clockwise. After about 45 seconds all I could think about was whether or not the next scene was finally going to let me regain my sense of balance.
I always thought it was a bit lame that the internet decided to "bring back" Rick Astley and "make him a star". It was funny and cool at first, but then I looked him up....he's sold 40 MILLION records in his career. He was a huge deal in the '80 and absolutely raked in the cash..
Its like 20 years from now the internet seizing upon a song by Beyonce and feeling proud of themselves for making her popular again.
Why can't we pick out some talented dude who didn't already become rich and famous and give them a taste of the good life...

Except that really wasn't the intention to begin with. It's a trolling technique that went viral.
We also have a hundred imitations of making unknowns into stars, e.g. American Idol.

except he's not a one hit wonder...he had 13 top30 singles worldwide....every one of his first 8 tracks made it into the top10 in the UK. 40 Million records sold.
of course he's back.. he'll never say good bye . i dont mind the song if im playing it in the background and not paying attn, but when i focus on it it's not great...
This song, also a new single from Rick Astley, is more recent (uploaded 3 days ago O_O), it's more like a ballad. I have to say, I like the song in the OP more though.
I will be pretty negative here, but the music is pretty banale and boring.
The only reason why we see Rick Astley back is this internet meme, and that a producer thought that by resurecting him, he could make some money surfing on this unexpected renewed celebrity.
Rickrolling trend was fun. This is just boring marketing.

It's pretty generic, yes, but honestly, even though some producer thought he could be a golden mine, it's good to see the guy doing what he likes again. Besides, according to wiki, Lights Out only managed to hit #15 in the UK charts.
