I am requesting the insights of benevolent TLers who have traveled to or that live in/near these places: 1) Glasgow 2) London 3) Paris
The situation:
I'm traveling this fall (late September to early middle of October) to Scotland, London, and Paris. So far my schedule is pretty flexible with two exceptions-
1) I must fly in to Glasgow, and stay there the first week I am free to do what I want Sunday-Wed (Thurs-Saturday will be for conference obligations), but would prefer to stay near Glasgow since my room and board is taken care of for that week.
2) I must fly out of Paris (plane tickets were cheapest this way strangely enough and I would like to see Paris). The plan so far: Fly into Glasgow for a week, take the train down to London, stay 4 days, take train to Paris, stay 4 days, fly out of paris the 5th day.
Questions: 1) Are there any attractions/sites that you would strongly recommend that are often missed by the typical tourist itinerary? I know it most likely depends on my preferences, but I always like to get an insiders viewpoint when possible.
2) Are there any other cities that are strongly recommended that could fit within my timeframe?
3) Do you feel I should re-allocate the time as outlined (e.g. more time in one place vs another)
4) Any other general suggestions/advice/misc. would be highly appreciated
Thank you in advanced for taking the time to read, and for any suggestions!

Hm not a lot in Glasgow, Edinburgh would be better for the tourist sort of thing.

I live in Edinburgh so I might be a bit biased, but Edinburgh is better for tourist attractions and culture, while Glasgow is particularly heavy on the shopping, so if you like large shopping centres, you'd love Glasgow, I suppose.

Haha, well, you are all making me wish that the conference was in Edinburgh ;D The reason Glasgow is on the itinerary - is my significant other is attending a conference there, and the flat is paid for the week (I get to tag along since its a flat, just had to buy the plane ticket).
I see that Edinburgh is only an hour and a bit away, any suggestions for Edinburgh since it seems that is the place to be ;]? (thanks for the recommendations and input so far, sad I will have missed the Fringe festival, it looks like fun).

I live in Glasgow but I have literally no idea what tourists do here. Where is the flat located?
The west end is the nicest part of the city, you could walk about there and see Byres Road and the university I guess, my classes are usually in the main building which is quite a nice building. You should go out in Ashton Lane at night too in the west end. Theres a weird tearoom that people rave about called Tchai-Ovna too. Your dates will mean the west end will be quite busy and full of students tho, duno if that really matters.
I'm tired atm so I might try think of more places another day, but here's a random list that I guess you should consider: Glasgow School of Art (Mackintosh Building is famous so more of his work wud be The Lighthouse and Willow Tearooms), Kelvingrove museum/gallery (duno mite be a bit crap), Botanic Gardens, Hunterian Art Gallery (next to Glasgow Uni main building), etccccc
Basically best place for tourists is prob west end and city centre, nothing to see/should avoid south side and east end. If you wanted to go a bit further but still close you could go to Mugdock park or Loch Lomond.
Hope that helped, if u have any questions I'll try my best! gl
edit: also to the question of any other cities, no! maybe edinburgh but as for english cities it's probably not worth it so just stick to London.
