I'd say no, but I don't know your plans for the future. That being said, if you are okay with moving out there's nothing wrong with having a discussion with your parents about giving you more freedom. The worst that's going to happen is they will tell you to move out, which you were prepared to do anyway.

lol two polar opposites. Every family dynamic and individual situation is different and there isn't a right and a wrong. It's up to you. But either way you're gonna have to sack up and do something.

The hell, if you're paying them $400 a month to stay there, tell them to pay you whenever you do that kind of yardwork or w.e.

Or else move out.

Just as a heads up you're not gonna get much cheaper rates (especially in August, school is coming up). Also, if you don't already pay for your own food you're looking at spending ~700-900/mo. if you know how to cook. However, your yard is huge and gas really is a bitch from your place. Sounds like you should move out, or at least get some compensation for doing the yard.
For comparison sake in Edmonton, my apt. is $1400/mo. market price, and you've seen how small this place is.

Well I take in around 1800 a month, have $150 a month car insurance payment and thats it. I'm just so tired of being hasseled whenever I'm home. And my parents don't need the money BTW. I've been trying to do some sketchy budget ideas but nothing down to the dollar. I've been looking at like some $750/mth places and some roommates but I'm still looking until I'm 100% sure. But to answer one of the q's I think I'll have my job for as long as I need it. But another question was, I don't think they can have me move out for how much I do, and I don't see them negoatiating. Does anyone have some suggestions on how I can move out without burning any bridges?

sorry but $1800/month really isn't enough unless you plan on having a roommate at your new place. i don't know about you but where i am at right now you can't find a 1bdrm apartment for cheaper than around 800 a month. there are a LOT of costs that you wouldn't think of when you live with your parents. everything from toiletries to cleaning supplies, and 1-time things like buying a bunch of kitchen appliances, dishes, silverware, furniture, plus the regular payments such as groceries (a lot more expensive that you'd expect!), internet, phone, utilities, car, insurance etc.

Next week my parents are coming over and we're going to be looking at some real estate, so I might be getting a new house. If so, you can move in with me. I'm looking for a TL roommate anyways since I'll be hosting a lot of TL meetups and stuff. I can cook for both of us as long as u drive to the grocery store.

As for your parents, I think they are charging you and making you work not because they need to do it, but because they want you to experience what it's like to have to live on your own. I think they are doing it to encourage you to be independent. It's common for western families to want their children to move out once they hit 18. But before you make up your mind, you should probably talk with your parents and see what they think.

1800 a month is loads.

rent 700

bills 200

food 300

other stuff 200

1400, and I think that that is more of a "worst case' kind of thing. I think you should try and room with someone, it's generally more fun and places that arent solo are cheaper / better

Hmm, it sounds like your parents kind of need you, for the housework (not sure if they're doing bad financially) but you can try threatening them to move out. You can suggest to them lowering down the price you pay for rent and lower the amount of house/yard work.

This might be a bad idea, but think about it.

I hate when I lay out my argument clearly and someone boils it down to shit.

He's almost paying rent, will have to do those chores in his own house and will have to pay for food, utilities, insurance, transportation, etc. etc. It's a lot of money, especially if you're planning on going to school.

mmmm no yard work in an apartment
and I'll retract my previous estimate, you're probably looking at 1200-1800 Zack. I forgot how bad insurance can be for an 18 year old male.

If you're paying to live there AND doing chores to help out all week then yes you should move out.

U could probably rent a room from someone for around $450

You still have to do chores man. I live in an apartment and a lot of my weekly time is going to get groceries, dry cleaning, cleaning my house, my car, my clothes, my dishes, cooking, etc.

The actual act of moving out will require you to buy a lot of stuff also.
