For comparison sake in Edmonton, my apt. is $1400/mo. market price, and you've seen how small this place is.

And my parents don't need the money BTW. I've been trying to do some sketchy budget ideas but nothing down to the dollar. I've been looking at like some $750/mth places and some roommates but I'm still looking until I'm 100% sure. But to answer one of the q's I think I'll have my job for as long as I need it. But another question was, I don't think they can have me move out for how much I do, and I don't see them negoatiating. Does anyone have some suggestions on how I can move out without burning any bridges? sorry but $1800/month really isn't enough unless you plan on having a roommate at your new place. i don't know about you but where i am at right now you can't find a 1bdrm apartment for cheaper than around 800 a month. there are a LOT of costs that you wouldn't think of when you live with your parents. everything from toiletries to cleaning supplies, and 1-time things like buying a bunch of kitchen appliances, dishes, silverware, furniture, plus the regular payments such as groceries (a lot more expensive that you'd expect!), internet, phone, utilities, car, insurance etc.

As for your parents, I think they are charging you and making you work not because they need to do it, but because they want you to experience what it's like to have to live on your own. I think they are doing it to encourage you to be independent. It's common for western families to want their children to move out once they hit 18. But before you make up your mind, you should probably talk with your parents and see what they think.

rent 700 bills 200 food 300 other stuff 200 1400, and I think that that is more of a "worst case' kind of thing. I think you should try and room with someone, it's generally more fun and places that arent solo are cheaper / better

I hate when I lay out my argument clearly and someone boils it down to shit. He's almost paying rent, will have to do those chores in his own house and will have to pay for food, utilities, insurance, transportation, etc. etc. It's a lot of money, especially if you're planning on going to school.

I forgot how bad insurance can be for an 18 year old male.
