Just wanted to get some outside opinions on moving out of my parents house. I'm 18, working full time and have a car. I'm just tired of getting hasseled to do shit whenever I'm not working. I'm expected to do a minimum of 10hrs/wk of yard work + other stuff around the house whenever they say the word. I'm paying $400 a month to stay there and I spend alot of money on gas because we live outside the city if I ever wanna do anything. Just seems like I'm working 2 full time jobs and I'm getting really stressed and burnt out.

Help me make up my mind TL!

You should make the decision yourself, I would just advise you to think about it for at least a week or two, when your parents aren't hassling you, before you make a decision, so that you don't make one you will later regret.

Personally man-- it sounds like they have high expectations of you. If they are expecting you to pay rent, and do yardwork-- I would stay at home as long as I could, just because you will never be able to live with your parents ever again.

But living on your own, is an amazing experience. It makes getting a girlfriend pretty easy too..

Where you from in Canada-- Could always live at my house. Hurhur.

Well, if your not the one doing that 'shit', then who is suppose to do it actually? From my experience, owning your own place requires you to do more chores than living with your parents. Then again, its up to you really. Nobody will bug you in your own home, but you still have to scrub the toilet anyway.

I think the only problem is the food, can you make foods by yourself (real food, not pizza or anything shitty unhealthy), and do you have time to make food?

Making cheap/healthy food doesn't take very much time at all, you can just eat a lot of raw vegetables and fruits, and chicken. Pasta is quick and easy too.

1. How much you have in your savings
2. How much your cash flow is
3. Job security
4. Housing/rental market price
5. Careful consideration of sub-factors
- skills to live alone/roommate
- doing housework non-stop after work
- talking about moving out and whether or not they will support this notion
- your ability to cook/eat properly
- your life goals/ambitions

your parents charge you to stay in their home? is this a common practice in canada o_O? and the decision to move out depends on your own personal relationship with them, which is what only you can properly assess... if what you're asking us to assess though is the opportunity cost, i'd say 400$ is cheap, but i stay in nyc and rent is ~$1k per month

400 a month is pretty steep for living with your parents. I live on my own and pay 360~ a month. Of course I don't have a luxury apartment or anything like that.

Something to note though, even if you do move out you will still spend plenty of your free time doing dishes, cleaning up, ect ect.

I would move out

You are still pretty young, and it depends on you goals/ideas for the next few years, but that sounds like crappy living situation.

I dunno anything about CA rent, but $400 a month sounds like enough to pay rent on your own! And if they are making you do more work at home and always bothering you, there doesn't seem to be much upside to staying at home.

What are your plans for the future? If you plan on any post-secondary then I would start looking asap. Also, what is your current job, and do you plan on keeping for a long time? Personally, I don't recommend just getting out. Talk to your parents about it, if you feel comfortable, and try to set up something closer to where your work place is.

It kinda seems as if they want you to get a move on, charging rent and all. Get some advice and get the ball rolling.

Use whole-grain pasta or brown rice if you can. Much more fiber and only a slightly more expensive cost. Much better for you.
