So this Friday I have an interview for a part-time job at Geek Squad. I'm kind of nervous since I've only had two jobs. One was a part time with a Family Friend as a Secretary/ tech support for some of the people in the building. The other job, that I am still at, is at a local High School. I work as a network admin and I fix computers on a team of about 8. At the end of August, they have to let me go because of financial reasons. Since I worked at the High School, I have experience with clients/customers that I would have to deal with at Geek Squad i.e. Teachers that either think they know everything about computers or who have no clue about computers. Plus I have a lot of experience with computers. I have been using them since I was 3 and I was top in the Computer Tech classes from the Trade school at my High School. The two jobs I've had though, I never had a real interview. The first job was set up by my Dad and the second was set up by knowing the Boss. Basically, this interview will be my first interview. What are some pointers you guys can give me? I know I have to look professional. I was thinking about a good black skirt and nice top? What kind of questions should I ask? Do I need to bring my letters of recommendation or wait for them to ask for them? Has anyone here ever apply to Geek Squad? Gah so many questions... I'm so nervous lol Anything you can give me would help though so Thank you in advance ^_^
I find that the best way to prepare and ask questions is to talk about your experience and how it applies to the position you are being interviewed. Talk about the skills you have related and how you have helped others greatly and being a teamplayer. When you have the attitude that you are going to get the job when you go to it and come out of it helps. References are key. have this available, talk about what unique things you will bring to the position that someone else will not such as ur passion for computers or your ability to solve problems quickly and give clients great advice to maitain their networks and computers. Have confidence and dress well. Hope you get the job.
Dress professionally, try to relax and be open for communication. Most interviewers look for a 70:30 ratio of you talking vs them asking questions so they can get to know you. If you stutter or take too long to respond they might take that as you being as a hesitant person. Try your best to appear amicable and smile as much as you can. They might ask you about your qualifications, hobbies, and why you want or should have the job. Try to have some partially prepared answers to these questions. They will also probably ask if you have your own form of transportation, and your availability on hours. Be truthful.
Tell them you are able to provide letters of recommendation and tell them a little bit about what you did in your previous jobs. Also ask questions about your hours, what kind of work you will specifically be expected to do, and negotiate your hourly pay. I find part-time job interviews pretty fun and easy [ haven't dropped one so far! ^^ ] so this is my humble advice from my own experience. GL!
Experience tends to speak for itself, but outside of that they are just going to want to know you are going to be a team enhancer and not a team impeder, will be there on time, reliable, etc.
Thanks for the tips. I'm normally pretty good at talking to people but I've heard horror stories from friends who have applied to the same place =\

Lol... look at the name hun. Miss Geek And Im gonna have to wear a skirt any ways for the uniform so I figure might as well show Im not afraid to wear one?
Interviews aren't so bad. Best thing is to be yourself and not try to get too nervous.
I worked at Best Buy for 2 years. In most interviews for any department at best buy they will usually ask questions about you. Not many tech questions (might be different for geek squad positions) because they are usually willing to teach you everything if/when you get the job. They asked me questions like, "where do you see yourself 2-5 years from now." they asked me questions about school and stuff and also about my selling experience and my previous jobs. Since I was going into computer sales they wanted to know my experience in being able to sell shit. If best buy is still doing the same policy you'll get 2 interviews, one with a store manager (what you probably have on Friday) then another like 2-3 days later with the general manager who will offer you the position if they want to hire you.

Hah, weird, I am actually interviewing for a position on the geek squad this thursday! From everything I've heard about geek squad members it seems you are most likely overqualified for that job anyways :p. Just relax and answer their questions truthfully and you should be fine.

hmph... cant find an embarrassed smiley.... Sorry about that -.-
A lot of it depends on the interviewer. Some will interrogate you with loads of technical questions while others will just want to find out what kind of person you are. Try to feel what direction your interviewer is trying to take it and go along with it. If you're going to be interviewed by the manager or the people you'll be working with, it's particularly important to make a good impression and show them you're friendly and easy to work with in addition to showing your interest and technical skills.
No need to bring rec letters or anything else unless they specifically ask. IMO, dressing nice always helps, even if they say it's not necessary. Good luck!
The flow an feel of the interview should definitely be dependent on the interviewer. Generally, all bosses respond well to a polite, happy and committed employee so display you are one as much as possible. Just be very polite with greetings hand shakes etc. Don't hesitate when answering questions ofc, even if your uncertain. An immediate answer is better than a slow one (usually). Also, the most important thing is to be relaxed and confident. These two things will aid you most imo.
