What versions can platinum trade to?
To trade without GTS, you need two DS, both with Pokemon Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, Heartgold, or Soulsilver, in close approximity (by close, I mean about 1 metre or so... it doesn't have to be two inches facing each other, LOL).
If you ever choose to fly to Toronto I'd trade with you LOLOLOLOL.
Besides, those are not the only things you want to trade. There is Rhyperior and Scisor which are really powerful species. Also there are many Pokemon that you cannot catch or too hard to catch in Platinum, for example Ditto. Stuntank, etc.

Rhyperior is awful. So is Skuntank
Scizor's exceptionally useful though. And so is Ditto (if you still breed instead of PRNG abuse).

Statistics-wise Rhyperior is pretty good (let's just forget about its typing...). Skuntank is somewhat a gimmick but still useable.

Rhyperior is hardly ever the optimal choice for a team. Its biggest problem is that it can't ever switch in on ANYTHING, and is easily forced out. It also faces competition for a teamslot by Pokemon like Swampert, Gliscor, Tyranitar, or Hippowdon, and all of those Pokemon outclass Rhyperior in numerous regards. Rhyperior isn't ever going to use its impressive attack stat, its defense is hindered by an abysmal typing, and it lacks useful moves that the other Pokemon do (such as Slack Off or Roost).
Skuntank is simply horrid, and never belongs on any competitive team (unless you're playing niche tiers like NU). It has subpar stats in everything except HP, a terrible movepool, and is completely outclassed by Drapion (which has the same typing and serves a similar purpose...not saying it's useful either, because it's not).
Whereas you can potentially put Rhyperior on a team and make it semi-legit (maybe on a Trick Room team or something), having a Skuntank on any sort of team will just get you laughed at.
