Despite people not liking them...some people anyways... I've had a pair of Audio Technica headphones for almost 2 years now. Obviously a discontinued model but they have over-ear (not on or in ear) headphones that are in a decent price ranges and are durable as heck.
I hate to be that guy, but I work in the professional audio/visual industry...assuming you want studio-ish headsets, we sell alot of ATs, Sennheisers (overpriced imo), Shure, and offer Sonys. I'd go for AT or Shure but those are more of a professional studio headset than anything else. Just stay away from Bose. >< You pay way too much for the sound quality you get out of them. Lots of people live by them but...my personal opinion is bleh.

google "AT earphone" yields no results, link plz?
yes studio would be great. I'd like to record some songs at some point

Sorry. AT = Audio Technica, like he said.
|
Don't like it. Looks cheap (I'm sure it's not) but the different colors on it turns me off. I want solid black, solid like a rock where u can throw it around it'll never break.

The frame on those Audio Technica's are alloyed. You could probably throw em out the window and they'd be intact. Maybe not the speakers inside but the frame would be!
Audio Technica makes some similar ones that are all black. The Shures you linked don't look too bad, I haven't used a pair myself but most places rate them pretty high.

That's a really good price for a good set of headphones. The problem with Senn's though is that they snug up on your head a little tighter than normal - to keep outside sound out. I think maybe your best bet is to pick 3 or 4 sets, and start reading up on reviews. Durability, Sound quality, so on. Sometimes headphones will have GREAT bass and GREAT vocals but midrange will suck balls and high-end things like cymbals will get tinny or hissy.

$50 - $100 range GL finding anything
senn hd 5 series prolly ur best bet, i have a pair of 595s laying around and they're fine, 555 prolly works nearly as well
atm i use 600s+cardas mated to a headroom setup, for walking around ipod+etymotics

everyone knows sonys are boomy as fuck, there are decent headphones in ur price range but they all sit on the ear and are uncomfortable (grado sr60 by far being the best of this class)
|
That's actually the pair I own :> (the one you most recently linked) I love em to bits; I heard that they can last years. Long cable cord, they're also not too bulky to the point where it's troublesome to move around but still sound very very good. Also very comfortable, but can get kind of irritating after ~2 hours (like most headphones). They seem to be on sale too from amazon, they usually go for ~$100. After using a decent pair of headphones like those, I don't think I could ever go back to crappy ear buds.

I use these as monitors when producing music and for listening...they are, simple put, fucking pro. Best sounding headphones i've ever worn under 300$, beat the shit out of 280's (brutally). I've had mine for a bit more than a year now without a scratch or problem. buy them.

lol, when you see someone making blanket statement about every headphone made by a manufacturer and claim all headphones in the 70-100$ price range "sits on your ear and are uncomfortable" you know you are dealing with an audio pro.

Too light, doesn't feel solid!! I want a rock basically, no light stuff!

Also, the headband is made out of metal with metal hinges, good luck breaking it.

Oh it's METAL!!! NICE! I fucking love metal!
I'm bit concerned the joints where the bridge(on the top) connects to the oval "speakers" that connects to your ear, you say those are metal hinges there? And that cup thing connected to the metal thing is metal too?

HD555 or AD700 are right in that price range (from amazon) and are fantastic.

SRH440 from Shure is pretty good and should be within budget.

The HD555's I'd recommend, but also the AKG K518LE's if you get them from HTFR.
|
Sony MDR-V6's hands down if you can get them at the $35 refurb price. Otherwise, $70 is still an excellent price for these cans. They're much better on everything (including bass) than my Sennheiser HD280 Pros.

Audio Technica AD700 easily.
You could look around http://www.head-fi.org, it's a forum for audiophiles and headphone experts. Just search around or make a thread and you'll get a great recommendation.

It is a well-known, high quality, and expensive, albeit, solid brand. Their best headphones need an amp though. And yes, they are known for their clarity. 701s.
To the OP: I don't think you'll realize this but studio-quality headphones or accurate headphones are not necessarily the best for casual listeners/music lovers. In some ways it can be better to have a more fun slant on things ... meaning for the headphones to color the sound in a certain way. Many headphone brands/makers are known for their particular sound signature. So really, you might be wrong if you think that studio headphones will be the best for you. I'm convinced after going through many headphones (I like IEMs and earbuds moreso than the big cans since they're so portable), that it is near impossible for online reviewers to give that accurate of a recommendation for others since music is so subjective. Unless you've actually tried and listened to music using different headphones, you really won't have any idea as to how different they sound.

AKG is a good brand. for you evan, the AKGk81dj is a really good entry level headphone. its closed too! (doesn't leak sound, isolates sound)
The Sony MDR-V6s are also pretty good. At the refurb 35 they are seriously a steal; very neutral headphones. the akg's are a little bit more warm and bassy

I have a pair of Koss UR-20's, which I use for gaming and for my guitar. They are quite good, and yet only $20. I was confused, but I love them.

Yeah I'm aware. Anything will probably blow my mind but I want neutral headphones I do plan to produce music at some point (after I get my electric guitar hehe), and granted, I might not be good enough to warrant a studio earphone for that purpose (probably a earbud will be sufficient for my level) but it is good to know that it is capable.

When producing music, the amp is more important than the headphones. And like I said, I use my UR-20's with my guitar and they are nice ^^

Just get whatever is most comfortable for your head. People really exaggerate the differences between drivers.
