If you haven't checked out ocremix.org - then you need to go immediately. They have some of the sickest FF remixes ever.
Here's a link to their torrents...towards the bottom you can dl 1900 of their tracks, they have not just the FF / CT / SOM remixes, but a ton of other video game remixes as well.
When you have an amazing storyline, an amazing soundtrack really helps to bring emotion and depth to a game. Emphasizes everything, how evil the evil guy really is, how sad the hero is after his woman gets kidnapped etc.
Chrono Cross
Zelda
Even *dare I say it* HALO to a certain degree haha.
Final Fantasy Distant worlds was one of the most amazing concerts ever. I'm not much of a crier, but for some odd reason a few songs just made me squirt a little. One winged angel was SOOOOO intense. Choir was ridiculously amazing to hear live.
Slightly off topic but Yoko Kanno is the composer for a lot of famous animes and her music is excellent as well. For some reason when I think of her I also think of Nobuo Uematsu Lots of gems there.
My god what I would do to play guitar like this guy. + Show Spoiler +

Chrono Chross, although not as good as Chrono Trigger in gameplay, had amazing music as well. Once again I would kill for guitar skills like these. + Show Spoiler +

The music from the Seiken Denstsu series was always amazing. These songs give me an overwhelming sense of nostalgia that sends shivers running through my body. + Show Spoiler +

(I wasted a lot of my life playing 11, but I thought that it was just such a fun game.) And the music is all just fantastic. Honestly, the music is half the reason I played the games, and the stories wouldn't be nearly as compelling if it weren't for the music that went with them.
Gah... this thread... so much nostalgia.
I don't know how "Zanarkand" hasn't been mentioned yet... it's some of Uematsu's best stuff.
It's such a shame that Uematsu doesn't do all of the FF music anymore. The guy is a genius.
he's doing all the music for that new ff that is coming out that was announced a few weeks ago. i forgot was it ff14 or 15. i really can't keep track anymore.
