So I'm working on a solo album that I hope to have completed by the end of the year, those that know my work might recognize the track list:
1. Hyperion 2. A Cataclysmic Miscalculation 3. Far And Wide 4. Asylum 5. Shapeless 6. Obsolete 7. Alone 8. Collision 9. Venomous 10. Thy Judgment 11. Nemesis
I'm planning on revising all my tones, borrowing good bass guitars, and using better plug-ins as well as mixing and mastering each song more thoroughly. I'll also be re-writing some parts (some songs will enjoy MAJOR rewrites, some will remain untouched) and adding vocals to a lot of them.
I need musically experienced people to critique this mix to let me know what's wrong with it, what's right with it, etc. etc. so that I can get it perfect before I set a template and start recording the album to it!
SO TEAR THIS PUPPY APART (EPISODE 1)

unfortunately I dont feel like I'm experienced enough to give you any decent advise on the production of this. It does sound pretty fuckin badass already though, the official mixtest song didnt have any vocals the first time you released the track right? Man your shoutings are so good, I'm really looking forward to this, I actually like your solo stuff better than both of your bands.

Very nice! Only thing I noticed was that synth (?) @ ~1:45 was maybe too centered. Maybe some panning automation at that or split the stereo a bit. Also the kick bass (I think I heard it 3 times) stomp either has too much volume or too low frequency. It is too audible in both my headphones and speakers, but it could be from the quality of my material.
I enjoyed this very much :D

man I've been tryin' to tear it apart but it sounds soooo good =3 hmmm... Ahhh, it sounds pretty damn compressed, especially in the bass... it sounds so loud and squished, maybe back off just a slight bit with the low freq (>80Hz) At 00:40 and 1:30 specifically, the huge bass plunge sounds really distorted (it sounds ok at the end actually), maybe play with the attack envelope of your compressor or just back off with it a bit so your low freqs have room to breath. Have you tried playing this on some huge-ass speakers? The bass is probably just a tad too loud compared to the rest of the stuff in there.
it sounds very commercial being compressed sooo much ;_; That is good i suppose but, like most commercially available tracks, it is really noticeable in the drums, especially in this style of music where the cymbal sounds like it has no punch to it because the sound gets squished. Compare the section at 00:32 or at 00:59 with, say... the beginning, or 2:40. the cymbal sounds different. Just something to keep in mind, it hear it a lot in msic these days. Compressors/Limiters are very powerful tools that you need to be really careful with because they can make or break your production.
Musically my only critique would be to emphasize the buildup in the last section more, it seemed too static. It was good that you added in a simple snare rhythm to spice it up but that was only in the last stretch, the rest of it was all the same and showed very little sign of an ending coming. maybe try making a longer and more complex snare rhythm and go up an octave in the lead in the second half or last quarter of the final section to make it EPIC. I think that's all i've got to say about this piece.
