There was a blog earlier with the same question that got a lot of answers. I'm wondering how the numbers will change after the Frank Pearce interview.

Poll: Will you buy sc2?No (39) 53% Yes (34) 47% 73 total votes Your vote: Will you buy sc2? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No
Poll: If you're not buying SC2 will you pirate it for the campaign?Yes (26) 62% No (16) 38% 42 total votes Your vote: If you're not buying SC2 will you pirate it for the campaign? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No
I'm definitely not buying sc2, I was planning on not to before but this interview made my decision.

I've always intended to buy it. It's relatively simple for me - it's a game, and I'm fairly confident I'll get enough playtime from it, at the very least via UMS, to make up for the cost. That was never in question. And my beef comes with BN2, not SC2, which I can always hope they fix at some later time.
|
Was just discussing this with a Gamestop employee. Apparently he's more optimistic about it than I am when I said there's no way I'm pre-ordering SC2.

I'm sorry, this does nor compute in my puny brain. Do you have reasons for such a stance?

I'm buying SC2 because the game is amazing and I've not had so much fun with an RTS ever. I'm also looking forward to the campaign.
I'm buying it despite Bnet 2.

Good luck finding ums games through their custom game search.

I will buy Starcraft 2, but not immediately upon release.
|
I'm neither buying nor pirating it. I don't want Blizzard to have any of my money and it's really quite mediocre.

Eventually, people will set up UMS dl sites online. It's happened with every game. And most of my UMS playing will either come in the form of an SC2 DotA (though it'd have to be good enough to pry me away from LoL) or killing time with IRL friends. Essentially I'm relatively confident the community, in one way or other, will support the game, and there's always the possibility that Blizz will come around and fix BN2 in the future.
I can understand people saying "I will not buy SC2" @ release, and I fully understand support their decision.
I'm just choosing not to do the same thing.
|
I'll probably end up pirating it for the campaign, if blizzard changes their stance and reworks Bnet 2.0 sure I'll buy it.
|
no way in hell am I going to pay 3X$50 just for campaign+ums
|
I'm still getting it. I'm unhappy with the way Bnet is going but I really enjoy the game itself. I hope that a lot of the problem with Bnet will be fix or added eventually even if it takes until the last expansion. Potentially I could just wait but I think that by then the people who did play will be really good and that was what kept me from getting into BW.
|
I'll eventually buy it for the campaign, but I might not buy it right out the door. I'm more than a little bitter at them charging $60 for a PC game, so if I don't snag a SE, I'll wait until the price drops a bit. Might wait to pick it up around the time the first expansion comes out; I'm sure there will be some good deals then. That is unless I absolutely have to have it before that, but I doubt it. I've been pretty picky with my games lately, and I'm sure Civ IV, V, and whatever RPGs I play in between will last me for quite some time.

Mentions of piracy have been cracked down on pretty hard recently. I'd suggest removing the second poll, even though I'm just as interested as you in seeing the results. =/

I am blown away that some people would not buy the game simply because of the BNet limitations. For the vast majority of us who don't participate in tournaments or have the majority of our friends on a different continent, it won't affect us that much. I am very much capable of communication with my friends without chat channels as well. To me it is all about whether or not core gameplay is good, and I think it is(but that is not for this thread).
Also, I think it is disgraceful and stupid to pirate the game. Blizzard makes the very best games, period. If you want them to keep making good games, you gotta pay up, it is as simple as that. If Blizzard doesn't make much money off of SC2, do you think they are going to keep patching it? Do you think there will be an SC3? Seriously, if you don't like it then don't buy it, but man up and don't buy it, don't be an idiot and hurt the game for the rest of us by pirating.
|
I've never gotten a game on release, and so will it be with SC2. I plan on picking it up though. Even at 60$ I think it's just barely worth the price. Likely I'll play the ladder casually, then switch to custom maps with friends for the remainder of the game's lifetime.

You're obviously new to Teamliquid. This is a worldwide community, we have made so many friends on iccup that are from all 4 corners of the world. And now we can't play with them (unless we buy 9 games, of course) Also, tournaments are a huge deal, even if you don't play in them, you watch them, no?

I enjoy BW. I enjoy Sc2 less.
As of now, I'm not.

Yes I am. I have hope for the future. Things may not be cheery now, but I have hope for the future still.

Wow, it looks like Frank pearce did terrible terrible damage to fanboyism here in TL.

It's not a very fun game?
I'm not buying it, but I know at least one friend is so I'll probably bum the campaign off of him. I'm fairly interested in how the storyline will end up but I'm certainly not shelling out $60 for it.

I'll buy it at launch, enjoy some newbie bashing then return to bw and look down on the sc2 with scorn and condescension
|
I'll buy it. I'm not happy about buying it, but I will. I cant fight my addictions.

well even if competitive play isn't as awesme as bw i'd love to find out how blizzard developed the story line .
and i haven't bought a game in like .......since diablo 2 or something hahaha.
yeah i'll buy sc2.

Not buying it at launch. I'm content to sit, wait, and watch as the scene develops. If it becomes something epic and inspiring like the BW pro scene, then I may buy it. Otherwise BW and its pro scene are more than good enough, what with BW being the sickest game in existence and all.
Though if my friends start bragging to me about how they can own me in SC2 I may have to shut them up.

I definitely get where you're coming from and I definitely don't agree with pirating it because you're displeased with some aspects of the game, albeit some pretty important ones. That said, it is pretty messed up that you can't play with people in other regions - I can't play with my own brother who lives in Taiwan right now, which is just ridiculous given that I can do so in Brood War.

I don't have any plans to buy sc2 in the foreseeable future. If I need an SC2 fix I will just watch some tournament to get it. BW is an infinitely more entertaining game

It is so hard to comprehend that there are a literally millions of English speakers outside of the US and Europe and many of them would buy SC2? This community is an international one and can attribute it's success and longevity due to this very factor. Stop living in your own vacuum. For $60 and 2x$60 more expansions it is not unreasonable to ask for an option to pick your region at will. Or you actually think it's fine to pay $180 for 1 game just so you can play with friends/tournament oversea? I really enjoy the game so far, but I am still on the fence about the sale because of Bnet2. It's as if Blizzard took 1 step forward and 2 steps back in that regard.

Every time I play SC2 I feel worse about the game. They've worked so hard on the game and I find the entire game to be imbalanced. It's almost like the units don't mix well enough, some need to be removed, others added to replace them. To host an example, the broodlord... The thought of the Broodlord pisses me off. The problem with it lies in the little fuckers it shoots. it blocks any units from walking towards them to get close enough to inflict damage. At this point you are like, "Fuck it I got this!" you switch to air, to make broodlords you need to make curruptors, which as of now stab every air unit to death brutally. I don't remember the actual ability for the curruptor, I know it inflicts so much damage. I'm a protoss player and it comes to a point where I can't fight zerg armies. Versus ground units protoss is strong, but when it gets late enough to add a tech-switch to broodlords the game gets increasingly difficult. I enjoy a good game, but when you add 6 broodlords to a mainly ground composed army, my army is absolutely useless. I storm the broodlords, while storming the hydra/roach/infestor combo. It does a lot of damage to the ground units, the broodlords actually get high off the storm and it seems like they shoot more of those little bastards. So at this point my army is picked apart and I haven't killed any Broodlords. I find the blink ability to help, but you can't blink towards a well positioned set of broodlords, you'll be blinking into sure-death.
I will get the game, only because it is being bought for me. I don't have to pay any money for the game. This upsets me because I've bought broodwar probably 8 times over the years, and I loved it! Even when it first came out, i thought it was the funnest game to date.
I know that blizzard is going to fix a lot, but they will have to change the entire game to make it more exciting and balanced.
I feel so negative towards this game. Blizzard made SC:Broodwar and I played it for 10 years.
I want them to extend the beta another 5 months and completely re-vamp the game. I don't care how long it takes them to make the game, i just want to have a hella lot of fun. At that point I can bite down on a cigar and say "Hell, it's about time".
