Summertime. Lifeguarding. First job.
I thought about it and my emotions took a nosedive. I feel like somebody's gonna die while I'm on duty
which is bullshit
When it comes to the wire, I can save somebody conscious/unconscious any depth spinal or not..Administer all first aid I'm required. 2 short whistles manager, 2 long whistles need assistance, 1 long whistle rescuing conscious victim, umm shit forgot the rest
I'll review them but right now thats not the point. I can do this shit. I can pull up a 300 lb man from 12 feet down with out using my freaking feet. 15 yo's do this job
And most likely, nothing serious is even gonna happen.
Typing this blog made me go up to neutral. When I think about my summer job, I wanna think "yeah! woo! I'll finally have $$ and a tan!"
hehe, ok I'm back. This was an emotional journey, tl, I'm glad we had this talk.

haha I really didn't need to post this for me. but maybe somebody can use this process I just went through to help themselves

What if you end up saving a life? Man that must feel sooooo fucking awesome.
|
oh my god yes, and just think about all the women..
fucking glorious

even if somebody does die, youve done your best to stop them from dying.
you're like a doctor except you dont leave them any nasty scars

I have a ton of Lifeguard friends and I'm ex-certified myself and I can tell you there's nothing to worry about. In the worst case scenario there's going to be someone more senior than you helping and and 911 will be on scene very quickly so all you have to do is keep your victim alive while someone more competent. The vast majority of your lifeguarding work will be cleaning up the facility that you work at.

one time at boy scout camp this guy took a massive shit in the middle of the shower, then to hide it dragged a cinder block over it but it was the kind with the square holes so it looked like he framed it lol
this kid was like 4 ft tall almost as skinny as his shit lol. i mean, pardon this comparison, but he hiroshima'd that shower. didnt crap all week then at the end he finally took a shower and it just relaxed his muscles. damn I wish I had a picture.
i hope i never have to clean something like that

I don't know jackshit about being a lifeguard but I guess keeping a cool and calm head would help..? Because the more you think about stuff the more you'd have a tendency to fuck up..

I used to lifeguard/teach swimming during the summer since I'm a swimmer and you'll be fine. Serious emergencies aren't that common and you'll be prepared when they do come along.

yeah the biggest problem you'll have is avoiding melanomas

I'm glad you're feeling better about the whole thing but I wouldn't go to the other extreme and talk about how easy being a lifeguard is either. Any time you are trying to rescue someone in the water you are taking personal risk... what's to stop the person from grabbing or attacking you? I obviously assume your training deals with that... and it tells you things like "if they are combative you fucking punch them and get away" but that's obviously not as easy as you make it sound :p

Yeah kids often have trouble with outhouses and try not to crap at boy scout summer camp haha...
When they start turning brown you try to discuss it with them but they become so horribly unreasonable :-/

just saw this, an update:
Easy as hell. Even the audit was. My pools safety rating or something ended up depending on me, they threw some curveballs at me and dealt with em perfectly. I'm getting TONS of hours and all that sitting pacing and everything is turning me tan and even more fit looking.
Really though I should start taking even more shifts. My body is mostly adapted to the heat (completely opposite of the college town I'm in) so I can realistically function near 100% for the potential 10 hour days. Still haven't gotten my first fat paycheck because its on a 2-week delay, but its gonna be faaaat
