Soo, this is a rant/ramble/self motivation blog.
I have exams starting in a bit over a week and very little has been done. Instead far too much dota is being played, like 5+ hours a day or something retarded. This is not good. >_<
Quiting something you do/enjoy for 5+ hours a day won't be easy, so made this blog to motivate myself to finally do it. Also, it's 4:30am here from playing sc2/dota and revision really needs to be done tomorrow.
So, yer, thanks for reading TL. Anyone else have to physically remove things from their computer to stop themselves playing and do something more productive? I don't seem to be able to do it any other way.

when i was back in highschool i had to uninstall all my games which didnt really help though. lol with my friends, games were our social connection since not a lot of us had money to do other stuff.
honestly, i quit playing games just out of lost of interest. i just played until i got bored.
but from what you're saying, it's still fun, lol.. well you gotta do what you gotta do, for school or just for finding a new interest.
i was obsessed with dota/hon and then some RPG game i found recently and now..
im trying to study french and learning how to produce music with a DAW program! (its only been 2 days so far, so lets see how long this lasts, hahaha..)

My brother was extremely lazy and had trouble doing his work so he unplugged his wireless adapter and put it in another room. He was so lazy that he didn't walk back to the other room to get it back and just did his work.

and I thought I was lazy...
don't force-deprive yourself of dota, make a goal like; "2 hours, I'll set an alarm, and even if I'm in game ill leave like a dickhole" this'll motivate you to finish before that second hour (unless you enjoy leaving) and should give you three hours that you didn't have before. I went through the same thing with hon earlier this year... it was annoy----ing
edit: the reason why I suggest this goal is because I "relapsed" back to hon, just telling myself, OH I'M ONLY GONNA PLAY ONE GAME... WHAT'S THE HARM IN THAT? and then just played for like hours... then uninstalled... then reinstalled... and the cycle sped up and over time I just gave up. It literally took the beta to close for me to stop the game. good jesus
do it gradually, find something that is almost as fun if not more fun (working out may be your thing, or something casual on the wii... I play the n64 with my bro and tennis for my cheap fun these days) and you'll find yourself having gotten dota that quickly.

Uninstall, pawn your game... It's the only way.

I had this problem myself. Either uninstall them or set parental controls. If you want good grades if not just game and get a 70-80

I was fucking hooked to dota...my god it was ridiculous. I was even in denial about it. My, how that game would make me rage. I just snapped one day and stopped playing it, probably around sophomore year. It did wonders for my health.
|
I had about 900 games in dota on TDA and then another 500 games on my 2 accounts in HoN. Man, that shit was time consuming and nerve wracking. So many trash players not even knowing what skills to pick or items to get.
Amazing value for the money though.

Just play League of Legends...

- 1 - write on a piece of paper "no dota from may 27 to june [insert date after finals]." leave this on your computer desk, by your monitor. - 2 - uninstall dota. - 3 - any time u feel an urge to play dota, read that paper.
gl hf!
edit: i didn't exactly answer your question, but anyways may help some1 out there

Dota is much, much more fun to play than SC. You play with all your friends, and its easy as hell to be really good.
SC is a much better game, with more depth and all that good shit, but some of the LANs and nights i played DOTA with 7-8 friends are among my fondest memories.

Yes, if only everyone was as great as you and your advice.
It's harder to quit multiplayer games if you have many friends that you play with, that's when you don't merely play the game, but also socialize people you enjoying talking/doing stuff with, that's from my own experience. Uninstalling the game would be the best option, and also do something like leaving the WC3 CD Key at a friend's house. Just promise yourself you will go hog wild after reaching your goal i.e playing a fuck ton after exams are over, this is a way to motivate yourself if you really can't stop playing that game.
I don't understand how people can stand playing DOTA type games with randoms or get addicted to it, it's the most infuriating experience and has some of the worst community.

I've been addicted to a variety of things, but always quit cold turkey the very first time they impacted my goals in life. Dropped all beverages except for water, dropped all fatty foods, quit smoking pot, stopped taking pain pills, quit playing a couple of video games that were taking up too much time, etc. Just stop doing the things. Don't ration it out and lower the amount of play time every day; that serves to extend an addiction. I know a handful of people who have quit smoking by lowering the amount they smoke per day, but I know dozens who have quit cold turkey. I agree with this. I have the same problem right now actually, playing dota when I should be working on two term assignments due in two days, but I actually managed to quit both video games and internet (!) completely for 8 weeks during the fall. If you quit cold turkey, you will find other fun things to do that aren't as bad for you. For me, it was squash and lifting. As of now, I don't really care about my grades because I'm about to graduate from high school, but when I do decide to quit dota, I will definitely go cold turkey.

Na, I can't tell myself just play for 2 hours or something. If I start, I can't stop like that. I moved my installs to my other hdd, which I then took out my computer. If it's on computer, it will be played, my self control sucks too much not to play it.
When I get back into dota my exams will be finished so I'm not too worried about how much I play it then. :p Though, I guess I'll end up playing it a stupid amount again.

Well, playing with friends is so addicting. And if there's 5 of you online you just keep playing, even if each game takes like an hour to find and play. I could never mass sc1/sc2/wc3 ladder by myself just got bored, but playing with other people makes it so much easier to keep on playing and playing.
Anyway, thanks for reading. Day 1 I got up at like 3pm cos of last night, so it hasn't been too productive. >_< But, hopefully the next week will be.

Here's to hoping your next vice is as entertaining and fun as dota.
