This is probably just an incoherent rant thus = blog Blizzard why?
Was it so hard for map makers in the past to get their work out in circulation?
Apparently it takes immense skill to open up a blog and link your updated map versions from file hosting sites like mediafire.
Apparently it also took immense skill to edit the loading screen to tell people where to look for updates.
Apparently none of those two things never happened
So now blizzard(dicks) is stepping in and being GOD all mighty
So now you can publish your maps (as long as they fit our requirements) and everyone can look search and download them yeah!
WTF was wrong with maps in folders like replays which you can sort and go though easily.
Fuck just add the search ability in the game if you think it's so fucking convient.
And wth now names are limited, it will be like bands where after awhile all the good names to maps will be taken and random strings of words are thrown together for maps just so you can get published.
It's like different versions by different people was a bad thing, Fuck with Dota was still new there was many versions, which mostly split into koreans playing ontlands and everyone else playing All-stars version.
Granted i do see some benefit from this, one can keep an updated version of a map online and all people have to do is know the name and search for it.
But what about older versions, people don't always want to play the latest version maybe they like throw backs.
Along with what about search criteria, you need to expand it so poeple list if it's a Melee map, if a UMS what type, TD, Arena, Tag etc else i mean how can i get to find obscure maps that map not be popular but great.
It just seems like to me this publish system burns more bridges then it mends.

Blizzard had such a good reputation before bnet 2.0... we've had so many expectations and blizzard just fucked them all up and pooped on us while they're still going to roll in money with all the casual gamers buying WoL... honestly if blizz doesnt fix these problems im boycotting the next two games
|
Yeah, I honestly have no idea where they got all of these stupid ideas from. It's all restrictions and different ways to get in the way of a streamlined interface like B.net -_____-
|
its all about money, didnt you notice?
|
|
ugh blizzard. so disapoint. bnet 0.02 imo

The only drawback of Blizzards way of doing it is not being able to play past versions.. and that's it i believe. This can be circumvented by simply allowing a previous version to be published.
In return, you get one single place where all possible UMS maps are 1 click away from being able to be played. This is something that far outweighs previous point in my opinion.
Instead of people having to:
1) find map in random forum 2) download in megaupload 3) put in correct folder 4) play the map 5) kick everyone that don't have the map forcing them to repeat steps 1-4 6) play
now all you need to do is 1) find using search bar in create game 2) play.

No local hosting = such a massive fall backwards from... everything.
|
blizzard and its fail >.>
|
Sc2 will fail if there is no local hosting etc, i mean i remember when everyone went to internet cafes' to link up in wc3.(its where i was introduced to wc3 and i bought 4 of it) its allows the game to grow faster and of course creates alot of fun.
I hate it when companies only think about themselves and the money.. i hope they fix up the mess which was unfortunetly created

There are more drawbacks.
Currently it is unknown if the limitation of only 5 maps per account will be lifted this will likely be lifted, as it would be stupid as fuck, frankly good map creators make a shit ton of maps becuase they are good at it.
So any limitation = draw back
Storage Requirements - Battle.net has the following limits for published files per user: up to five individual maps or mods (represented as "slots" in the dialog), with no more than 20 MB total size, and no more than 10 MB used for any single map or mod.
If there are any additional requirements for publishing the map or mod, they will be listed on the left. Once everything has been configured, you can accept the dialog, and your file will be uploaded to Battle.net. Upload progress can be seen in the File Transfers window which will automatically be shown. When the upload is complete, you can get online in the game and play your map!
Seriously? If you limit the size of the total storage and the amount in retail fucking ffs you'll have to give your maps to friends so they can publish it for you if you tun out of slots.
Blizzard is like oh hey, well host it for you oh..oh wait that's going to cost us in server requirements fuck it limit it.
And again names, you know how many bound games i've played or art of defense, different version are fucking great they weed out the shitty version even if it was from the first map maker of it's type. Not every project is passed on to a successor shit will just die without communities holding it up passing it along like old times, but when the successor gets it the original has to be taken down or he has to rename the map.
And map name restricts = every map after the first like 10,000 = random ass things added to the name to make it "unique"

|
You'll probably have to pay to upload more than 5, seeing as Blizzard is hosting them.
|
This is a very important issue! We need free-market maps now! Democracy NOW!!! I will be deeply saddened if this is how it is at launch. I really don't understand why they are trying to centralise Bnet 2.0 so much, it's just terrible T_T

facebook + apple store+ WoW? Gotta cash in yo.
|
What about making a post on the official forum to report the problem?
|
Oh Blizzard. To think I was so foolish as to think you would be the last big developer to care more about your fans than the stream of casuals.
sighduck...
|
thats what happen when blizzard let Red alert team take over.. massive fail..

I've only messed around with creating maps made my own td and defense game was pretty simple one you got used to the gayest UI ever devised for a map editor, i'm not diving into that shit storm of an api to make some really original shit that has been shown around.
Alot of map makers are concerned becuase blizzard is hosting the files for download, that part is great.
But so far we have to word if limitations will carry over, a big ball buster.
Along with how the database will be displayed, if have to know the exact name of the map i want to play wtf is the point of blizzard hosting it if i'll just end up search for maps online.
