I made a long-winded post about marauders on the beta forums (since obviously this kind of stuff can't go on TL.net lately), check it out if you are interested. Keep in mind that I'm not crying imbalance, I just don't like the unit the way it is. I'm curious what other TL'ers think, as its hard to sift through balance discussions to find the semi-intelligent parts.

so much of blizzard's balancing methods relied to heavily on buffing the marauder/roach/immortal :\

Why ? because browder plays terran and cant wiin without his marauders ;P

On a second say, i have to agree. Marauder is now the most cost effective massable unit with the best support units, to back it up.

I lack the skill to form a real oppinion on the subject of imbalance though but if blizzard judges them so terrans will cry.

Did you think it was a good idea to title the thread "why the dev team makes no sense?" Do you want to be taken seriously or not. " It sticks out like a sore thumb as far as lazy and illogical balance decisions go." I mean come on.

I agree with you "it does not attack air" is not a sufficient explanation for why marauders are 'ok' but you didn't have to say "I really want to hear an answer from the dev's that isn't "It cannot attack air" because that simply doesn't cut it and hardcore SC2 fans deserve more respect. "

Basically my mind is subconsciously trying to find ways to discredit your argument right now regardless of what is and isn't correct... it's hard enough dealing with all the bullshit on the blizz forums without the way you chose to write that... still I agree the marauder doesn't seem to fit with <tier2 units that well... but I'm not as concerned as you are.

I'm not really a fan of the marauder, but it's not exactly the early game effectiveness, though it is pretty damn strong there.

It just bugs me how late game you basically see the terran get 1 control group of MMM, stim and a-move and demolish almost everything. It just looks(and probably is) waaaaaaaaaay too easy. Throwing in ravens for PDD hardly makes it any harder...

I figured I would embelish it a little so that it would get more replies lol. I was just pissed off about the Dustin Browder response to the marauder question during that dev chat a while ago. I adjust my tone to suit the forum on which I post lol.

well when you have a unit like the roach before patch 12 that was 75/25 and 1 supply but had almost as much health as a siege tank (and the only zerg ground unit with more health was a fucking ultralisk) and did 16 damage per attack AND has the burrow gimmick clearly shows that as zerg were underpowered before, they just kept buffing the roach to fix any balance problems until you got the super unit you had in patch 1-11 that dominated every zerg strategy (and ofc now they are nerfing the unholy trinity but I think it's just not enough).

I don't like marauders either. Basically terran units used to be like paper, just dies in like 1 hit by everything in BW. But that becomes a huge balance problem when you have units like Colossus and storms that can essentially destroy about infinitely number of marines w/o taking any casualties.

Terran used to rely on position a lot where they can't move around the map easily. Now they have their own version of something that can run around the map taking lots of units. Essentially it really is a lazy way to balance the game. If all races have a core unit you can get to somewhat easily, balance won't be broken easily.

It kind of kills some of the uniqueness of the races since terran used to be very immobile and relied on siege tanks to set up positions. SC2, terran just run around with their high hps units and duke it out whenever u see the enemy.

I think there is a fundamental flaw in the design of the marauder and roach, they are much too bread-and-butter with no really discernible function or role in the game other than YO MAKE THIS UNIT TO WIN!

I'd love to see those units changed in some way that diversified army composition.

The Roach with the change in supply I feel was a perfect fit, now roaches aren't made en masse anymore but could still be useful in that they can take a fair amount of hits and I feel the burrow mechanic could still be used more effectively than it usually has been.

The Mauraders I feel need a nerf in such a way that also making a mass of them and not much else will be less beneficial. I like how the Maurader is but I do feel it needs to be made more difficult or punished if made all by itself more. I do not believe though that a supply increase is the answer as it was for the roach, not really sure how they could nerf the Mauraders without overnerfing them.

Maybe a slight HP decrease? Like 1 less hit from unit X or something?

A slightly slower attack speed?

Movement speed decrease?
