Hey, so I dont know if this should go in blogs or not so sorry if it is in the wrong place.
So when you first create a SC2 profile the first thing they ask you for is your profile name. I have always used Mrfred as my main username for various things, but for some reason I couldn't use it as the profile name. Anyway my friend said I should be able to use it and then when he got his beta key he tried any name beginning with the letters "mr" and all of them were blocked.
Why would blizzard not allow anyone to create a profile with the first letters being mr and does anyone have any other cool suggestions for names I can use?

. probably is an illegal character
interesting if they really are blocking things starting with mr i can't see why they would.

Probably for the same reason you can't type "trans" into bnet chat lol? I feel like whoever is in charge of the filtering needs to get with the program.

Because Mr is a title. You can't use Lord or anything like that either.

You can't put numbers or symbols in names. The best you could do is like iord (capital "i") or something, that would probably get around it.

I wonder if you can do Ms or Mrs then we can call blizzard sexist.

I couldn't use Wyoming as my identifier. Yellowstone worked fine.

According to Mike Morhaime, you'll be able to unlock titles like Mr for your username with DLC esports microtransactions Web 2.0 net neutrality.

Not to mention the word "backdoor" lol. I feel like they should know what some RTS language is before they decide to censor it.

'black' was censored last time i checked hahah (for normal chatting)
|
Wel,l mr could take part in the word "steamroll" which is a highly offensive term when explaining if you defeated someone.
|
This is why I have the game uncensored

Yeah, totally. Try saying things like "transfer drones to your natural" or "watch your backdoor" or "they came into my base" and you can imagine what happens. Its not likey they're super offensive words or anything.

I can't use KingFool.. King is not allowed. My friend couldn't use his name "vice" so he went with "viice" personally i think they went a little natzi on their filter

the words "black" and "white" are censored if you have your chat filter on in bnet 2.0
...got a big LOL R U SRS WTF the first time I figured that out. I mean really...

Wow I had no idea that was filtered. That is actually kind of offensive that Blizzard feels that needs to be censored. It seems to imply mention of transsexuals is similar to mention of cocaine, vulgar sexual slang, and common swear words. Ridiculous.

Has anybody heard of the Scunthorpe problem? It seems relevant to this thread. Straight from Wikipedia:
The Scunthorpe problem occurs when a spam filter or search engine blocks e-mails or search results because their text contains a string of letters that are shared by an obscene word. While computers can easily identify strings of text within a document, broad blocking rules will result in a false positive, causing innocent phrases to be blocked.
The problem was named after an incident in 1996 in which AOL's dirty-word filter prevented residents from the town of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, England from creating accounts with AOL, because the town's name contains the substring cunt. Years later, Google's filters apparently made the same mistake, preventing residents from searching for local businesses that included Scunthorpe in their names. Some examples:
Résumés of magna cum laude graduates have been blocked by spam filters due to inclusion of the word cum, which here is Latin for "with" but in English is sometimes used as slang for "semen".
In June 2008, a news site run by the American Family Association censored an Associated Press article on sprinter Tyson Gay, replacing instances of "gay" with homosexual, thus rendering his name as "Tyson Homosexual".
In October 2004, it was reported that the Horniman Museum in London was failing to receive some of its e-mail due to filters mistakenly deciding that its name was a version of the words horny man.
See Wikipedia for more examples.
Some of these errors can be quite problematic, but I find them very entertaining. I assume Blizzard is trying to keep the online game safe for younger players and the result is an over reactive censor.
