how the fuck do i implement replay knowledge/forum knowledge into my gameplay? im a low level plat right now, and i understand how to play from a theoretical point of view, but when it comes to actual implementation of my learned theory into game skill im terribad.

just play more?

p.s how do i stop succumbing to pressure during harassment that would be great too thanks TL.NET LOVE YOU <3

Practice makes perfect. Find a practice partner who will practice a wide range of skills that the two of you need to work on. You don't even need to play whole games, you could just give them instructions on a certain type of rush or harass that you're having trouble with, see if you can defend it and then repeat. Just find someone willing to put in the time to work on their game with the exchange of helping you with yours, it will make a world of difference.

I don't play beta yet, but i struggled with similar things in broodwar so I think my opinion is relevant.
- prioritize: do things in order of importance instead of trying to do everything
- master control: make sure you know how to do everything with economy of motion and effort
- learn how to categorize the game: ie separations such as macro and micro but even more specific
-remember what the big picture of the game looks like at all times
-Scouting and anticipation are key to maximizing advantage of theoretical knowledge. ie always have a guess at his general strategy or next move.

Yes.

You should know why you lost every game and work on patching that specific hole the next time a similar situation arises. If you really don't know why you lost, watch the replay carefully. If you still don't know, bring the rep to tl and get some advice. But honestly, if you watch a lot of high level games and read up on strategy, it should very, very rarely get to that point.

Keep in mind that everyone else who is at all serious about the game has access to all the same resources you do, so merely having this knowledge only puts you on even footing. You need to figure out how to best apply all you've learned and execute it well, and 90% of that comes from practice and self-reflection.

You look at your replay and go:
- Wow, my macro sucks balls.
- My build didn't achieve anything
- I didn't defend his harass very well
- I expanded way too fast and couldn't hold my expo
etc

Then before you play more games, you try to fix anything possible before hand that you did wrong in your previous game(s).

"Hmm... Instead of opening fast tanks, since I can't defend a muta opening, I'm going to try a 2 rax." for instance. That fixes part of 'My build didn't achieve anything'.

Then the rest is pretty much remembering to do stuff you didn't do in the previous game, such as 'My macro was shitty'. Unless you have some buzzer going off on your computer every 15 seconds for a macro cycle or whatever, it comes with practice. You can probably set up a fix for these before a game starts too:
- I didn't defend his harass very well
- I expanded way too fast and couldn't hold my expo

By planning when you get your turrets(all these examples are TvZ by coincidence), where to put them, etc. Planning when to start your next CC, how many units you will have and what possible army the enemy could send at you in an attempt to cripple/kill you.

If you're just deciding shit up on the spot it rarely works against skilled players. Just because your macro was bad and you have 2k off 2 bases doesn't mean you should just build 2 CCs to expo when you don't have enough to defend. Even professionals plan their play out beforehand.

i guess you really need to define what "practice" is. imo, playing a bunch of games with the same opponent, trying out different strategies, or perfecting strategies really works out the small kinks here and there, and makes the difference between a low level plat, and a high level plat.

so mass gaming on a ladder isn't the best way to practice? ;-; i only ask because i cant find any practice partners who actually talk about the games after. its just, play a few games, stop playing games. I CAN DO THAT ON THE LADDER. :3

It really isn't if you are just simply mass gaming. That won't help. You need to take the time to analyze replays and see what you actually did wrong and implement that to your play in future games.

ofc mass gaming is not the way to practise, find a friend, best if its a RL one and play with him over and over again

everything builds on itself. Once you memorize a certain part of your build like the first 2-3 minutes you can add to it. You just have to practice the same build over and over and over and over until you grasp why it is good in certain situations. It just takes time and definitely good mechanics which you should have if you played BW

mass gaming is not the same thing as mindless gaming. its important to recognize what you did wrong, but its far more important to beat the right things into yourself. especially when you're bad, practice is for more valuable than analyzation
