hello~ I know there are a lot of people with ample anime knowledge in this forum...I read most of "anime recommendation threads" but I cannot decide what to watch... well, I am looking for "powering up" anime like DBZ, one piece, bleach, naruto...but shorter and has already ended...I hate waiting for the next episodes and filler episodes.. I've seen so far...
bleach/onepiece/naruto (awesome anime except fillers) DBZ of course Hajime no ippo (good) deathnote (good) and many other popular ones...
I don't care for comedy but would prefer good story line and character power ups lol :D

gao gai gar is the ultimate old school power up show... if tengen toppa gurren lagann isn't based off of it, I would be surprised.

Powering up anime, hmmm, not my forte but I can name a few
Tales of Symphonia is pretty cool Bamboo Blade, kind of has power ups in the same way Ippo does, but definitely not an intense anime (it's about high school girls playing kendo and getting better at it) and maybe Tales of the Abyss
there's an anime I've been meaning to check out called Bersek and it looks like it might be that kind of anime too.
oh and definitely check out Kenichi the Worlds Strongest Disciple, or Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple
edit: now that I think about it I'm not sure what you mean by powering up since you listed Death Note

Rurouni Kenshin
awesomeness to the max

O! The original Saint Seiya was around the same time as DBZ and was super good in terms of powering up. I've never seen the Lost Canvas and other new stuff, but Saint Seiya was the other half of my early elementary school days along with DBZ.

i just finished berserk it was awesome i'm sure you'll like that.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex! :D

I dont think Berserk is considered 'power up anime' but im not expert. I would call it 'dark fantasy'. The reason im posting however is to tell you to watch it cause its awesome

Full Metal Panic is awesome, a mix of high school comedy and mech fight, with a great plot and no fillers.

gold.
Agreed, unmatched so far.
Also try different genres, I was hesitant at first but after watching Monster my mind exploded. Elfen Lied and Ghost in the Shell were amazing too. And Code Geass of course( just too epic)

D.Gray-Man Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Xam'd Lost Memories Dragonball Kai! Soul Eater
All are pretty good with good action and decent story. The first 3 have the best stories, DB Kai and SE have slick animation and action. I love all those anime really although SE has an anime original ending which is kinda a weak finale, if you watch that I suggest reading the manga during the last arc to see the differences.
DB Kai is DBZ without the filler and it plays out really differently. It's at the part in the story where Namek just blew up. pretty awesome.
DGM - Story about exorcists, one in particular who can see the souls of akuma with his right eye. Akuma are weapons made by the millenium earl from greivng humans dealing with the loss of a loved one who wish to bring them back. It's a war really with the millenium earl trying to end humanity and the exorcists who can use "innocense" to fight the akuma - they are chosen by god kinda thing. Good story, good action, tiny bit of a filler and its a little over 100 episodes. pretty dark anime full of awesome moments.
Xam'd Lost Memories - Very nice animation and killer intro. 26 episodes and the story telling was done really really well, it goes in a few different ways with lots and lots of character development. Not a typical shounen but an awesome one indeed. There is war between northern and southern governments and they fight with these fucked up bionic monsters and the main character becomes a "xam'd" which means he can transform into this fucked up bio-monster/protector thing when he learns how to do so. Story follows him, his love (they get seperated), the war and a couple other stakeholders. Also pretty awesome.
FMA Brotherhood - the new full metal alchemist, I'm really enjoying it so far think it kicks ass. Alchemy is the rearranging of matter and it's about these two brothers who kinda lost their bodies trying to revive their dead mother. Story is about them working for the army as a state alchemist while they try to get their body back and the plot goes very deep with the shady military's doings. Dark with nice action and pimpness all around.
I recommend you check out most of the stuff on this list, definitely DGM and Xam'd. DB Kai is amazing to me and i was a huge DBZ fan. I also watched Bleach, Naruto and all that crap so I know what you are talking about. DGM, Soul Eater and FMA are very much about becoming stronger and fighting stronger enemies. "Powering up" I think DGM is the most like that and SE the 2nd most. FMA not so much about becoming stronger but figuring shit out.
You wont be disappointed with DGM. If you do watch it there is a little bit of reverse filler in the 20's that you may be able to look up to skip but it's not a big deal.
Oh and I'll also place my stamp of approval on TTGL, it was fun and awesome. Revolution! You can easily watch it in a day cause it makes you want to go and go and go. I still say DGM though, very rewarding and big but not toooooo big.

I've been meaning to get back into Monster for a long time now. I watched like 30 episodes in 2 days and it was so slow it made my mind explode. It was definitely intriguing though I just couldn't go on. This summer I will for sure finish it.
