[H] identifying Stop error

Hi, I know there are quite a few tech wizards on TL, so I am hoping someone could help me out here.

My PC keeps crashing and giving me stop errors(blue screen of death). It does it at apparently random times with no discernable reason. Having heard that faulty ram could be the problem I have run memtest but it reported no errors. I have updated my bios drivers to no effect.

The error codes of the last 2 times it happened were:

1000008e C0000005 8DFBB966 9C74F3B0 00000000
1000008e C0000047 82453B95 803EC808 00000000

I am running Vista 32bit SP1
MSI-7250 K9N SLI Mainboard
Athlon64 6000+
9800GTX

The next thing I am going to do is check all the cooling fans are running smoothly and clean dust out, I'm thinking something might be overheating. I need to find a good tool to monitor system temperature. How hot is too hot for various components by the way?

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions as to what I should do to improve the stability of my system I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance

Seems to me like it might be a hardware problem.

You could check your RAM with this software:

Also might wanna make sure your video card isn't fried (I highly doubt this).

From the error numbers you computers throwing it seems to be the first of the four from that link.

Hey DeathByMonkeys, thanks for the suggestions. I have run memtest and it did not find any errors.

What can I do to make sure it is not my video card?

A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn’t catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).

You can get your computer to boot normally sometimes? Unless it always boots to the stop errors and/or just a completely black screen then it's probably not the video card.

Also sorry I must have skimmed over the part in the original post where you said you already used memtest.

@ DeathByMonkies yeah, it boots fine and runs pretty seamless for anywhere between 10 minutes to several hours, then blue screen.

Is there some way I can determine from the crash dump data what piece of hardware is causing the problem? I don't have any spare hardware here so replacing components and working it out by a process of elimination is out of the question. I suppose I could start it without sound/graphics drivers and see if the problem manifests itself to eliminate them from the hunt perhaps?

It's a very broad error and if the blue screen isn't detecting where the error originates from (like your video card driver) you'd need either to trial and error solutions or find someone who is really versed in bccodes

I would update your motherboard drivers and bios as a starting point
