On April 08 2010 08:46 FragKrag wrote: That statement of course, was based on a previous discussion, Gatorade ![]() Nvidia cards are indeed capable of running 2 monitors, but not the 3 that ATI Eyefinity allows flawlessly. Nvidia does not even support DisplayPort on their GPUs at the moment. (I think the GTX 4xx series will support them, but the reference model does not have a DisplayPort out) The complete lack of features that would be useful to him (does he need PhysX or CUDA? No!) in a Nvidia card vs the features in an ATI card means he should go with ATI. If he was savvy enough to 'consider' both sides, then he probably wouldn't need our help in the first place. You come into this thread and instantly pop off a 'fanboy' remark because you have no idea what the graphics card market looks like. If you honestly think 3x GTX 285 in SLI is a good purchase, I have nothing else to say. First of all, you are putting words into my mouth. When did I say that 3x285 was a good purchase? What the hell are you talking about? Did I EVER say that? No... I don't recall saying that. Also, if you read his first post, nowhere does he say I HAVE three monitors. That's something he is looking into the future to do. So a Nvidia GPU in this case can also work for him. And you say that I have no idea what the graphics card market looks like? Where does this outlandish hunch come from? I am currently aware that Nvidia just released the fastest single-gpu on the market (Just a solid fact. No fanboying here). And what the hell are you talking about Nvidia not supporting DisplayPort? They do support it. Go google it. All I said in my original post was for the OP to not be limited in his view just because people only brought up ATI in the first few posts. Then I explained why my initial post was not a fanboy statement. Then you start going crazy like a normal fanboy and naming all the shit that ATI has that the OP doesn't currently need. Does he need DisplayPort at the moment? No. Does he need Eyeinifinity at the moment? No. And to be honest, he will probably never push it past two monitors. I'm not a fanboy, but you obviously are.

The reason we only brought up ATI is because ATI is cheaper and has advantages like Eyefinity that make it more relevant. If he is thinking of adding a 3rd monitor, who are you to say he isn't? Nvidia 4xx does support DisplayPort, but not on the reference designs which have no DisplayPort Out, and it will take at least a couple months for nonreference designs to appear (maybe earlier, since the gtx 4xx series really does seem to need some better cooling :<) I must have read that 3x gtx 285 from somewhere else though, my bad. It seems like you love to call people fanboys, but you are just accusing me of something I am not! I have supported the GTX 470 quite a bit, and I actually want the card, but as anybody who is in the current graphics card market knows, ATI has much better mid-end and low-end cards on the market at the moment. It would take a Nvidia fanboy to deny that.

A card that essentially does not exist until April 12th and will be far too expensive for him to buy does not make any impact on what he plans to buy. Thanks for bringing up irrelevant information. If his reason was completely terrible, maybe, but having 3 monitors is actually quite amazing. I have a friend with a 3 monitor setup running off of a HD 5750 and it is very very impressive.

KMP is a precursor of sorts to the GomTV Player, think the guy who started it originally switched over to Gom. I use 9 monitors, I want to feel I am in cockpit when I play Crysis.

Not to sidetrack this thread more so, Eyefinity isn't worth it for gaming since the bevels aren't good enough to produce seamless images across monitors.

Sure, CUDA or ATI's HWAcceleration helps a lot in video playback (100% and lag vs 10% load on CPU with 1080p video with my 9800gtx), but it's usually used for really old single core processors or the earliest dual core processors.

that is when nvidia is expected to get more of them and distribute them to partners. Newegg might have some tomorrow though, since some partners lagged behind in shipping. I think only Gigabyte, EVGA, and PNY shipped out in the states. anyways it looks like the GTX 480 and GTX 470 are very solid in performance. The 2GB 5870 'GTX 480 killer' fell short, and the GTX 470 can compete with the 5870 in many games at 1680x1050 and occasionally at 1920x1200. Flops at 2560x1600 though.
