If it's skipping parts of the movie or something I would try a different player (VLC, Mplayer DivX etc) and update video codecs and drivers to the latest just to be sure its video card problems and not anything else.

Either way, I use a GTS250 overclocked if you're still in the market for one. It can run 1600 x 900

Find your price and then go up the list until you hit the price you want 4650 < 4670 ~ 3850 < 3870 < 4830 ~ 5670 < 4770 < 4850 ~ 5750 < 4870 ~ 5770

No, when you have a bad card and you watch HD shit, it will load really slow and if you try and skip around or your card is struggling to play it it skips or lags or whatever. Funny thing is it runs every game I throw at it (except Crysis because even some GPUs nowadays cant handle Crysis). Sure, they'll be much better technology but the old tech will still do work.

Not sure how it will run SC2, but I'm running fine on Medium settings with my three year old integrated card, so I'd guess it will run it on High.

Maybe you should try the really recent games ( Metro 2033 for example ). Also being obsolete doesn't mean poor performances only. In four years i think that Dx11 will be really a new standard and maybe they will have released Dx12. Moreover the average gaming card will have better performance and 1/3 of the consumption of this triple SLI. + The resolution on a laptop isn't the same than on your average deskstop screen ![]() Just make a comparison between a 5850 and 3x GeForce79xx from 2006. This kind of rigs look great for people who have a lot of money but they are definitly not the best cost / Performance / durability / TDP choices

Gatorade you do realize that Nvidia cards don't have eyefinity, and therefore don't run 3 monitors? How am I a fanboy when I am telling him to review both sides, not just one side? Did I tell him to go buy a Nvidia card like you? No. Did I list a feature of Nvidia that I am using to sway his purchase? No. If I were a fanboy, I would be bashing ATI and saying that they suck. Am I doing that? No. And do you realize that Nvidia cards are also capable of running multiple monitors? No. And your advice is to just go buy whatever you listed huh? And that's a better advice than me saying to go look at your options? I certainly do not think so. To the OP. Look at both ATI and Nvidia then choose. Don't just go with ATI because a fanboy tells you what to buy.

![]() Nvidia cards are indeed capable of running 2 monitors, but not the 3 that ATI Eyefinity allows flawlessly. Nvidia does not even support DisplayPort on their GPUs at the moment. (I think the GTX 4xx series will support them, but the reference model does not have a DisplayPort out) The complete lack of features that would be useful to him (does he need PhysX or CUDA? No!) in a Nvidia card vs the features in an ATI card means he should go with ATI. If he was savvy enough to 'consider' both sides, then he probably wouldn't need our help in the first place. You come into this thread and instantly pop off a 'fanboy' remark because you have no idea what the graphics card market looks like. If you honestly think 3x GTX 285 in SLI is a good purchase, I have nothing else to say.
