Before today we had Telus as our provider for internet and cable, which was not great to say the least. Internet was pretty slow(cannot buffer YouTube videos at 360p to keep up with the playback, slow downloads, etc), television crapped out all the time, and the house phone didn't even work. A couple weeks ago we decided to switch over to Shaw, and while I was at college today they came and installed/switched over everything.
Internet feels 20x faster, and now I can even watch YouTube vids on 1080 and still buffer way faster than it plays and downloads are very fast. The cable is really nice, as we get two receivers with fancy ass remotes, we can pause TV, etc.
The phone... Now I thought the problem with our house phone had to be on our end, because we had Telus send someone over to diagnose the problem 3 times, and each time the different person would say he doesn't know what's wrong, and that the problem is on our end. The person from Shaw took a look at it after some testing with devices he found out the one of the circuits was short in the box that Telus owns outside our house, and that that is why the phone wasn't working. Since that is Telus' and not Shaw's, he installed whatever he was supposed to originally, and now the phone works! Turns out the problem is on Telus' end and always has been, and we've been paying the package that include phone service from Telus the whole year the phone hasn't been working(since march of last year). That kind of irritates me, and we are going to complain about that. Anyhow, extremely happy that we switched over ^_^
With my beefy new internet I'll be able to do a lot more (lag-free) streaming of WL/OSL/MSL/etc and my own SC games, so look forward to that!

I dont know anything about Canadian internet companies, but for American, Telus sounds like Comcast and Shaw sounds like.... some non existent make believe company.
Hopefully it keeps working well for you

Comcastic i really believe their stupid fast, so many times that fast Internet was no where to be found probably too stupid to find it's way to my house. Moved back to dsl got a 12mb connection from at&t a bit more costly for the speed but it's been far more reliable and crap.

God, I hate the bay area because all there is to choose from is AT&T shitty internet, and Comcast -_-
|
Blame the old excising lines running though the area. Bay area dail-up is pretty much 28.8k actually not 56k

<3 Shaw. </3 Telus. All there is to say about it. I feel a little sorry for Americans who don't have access to Shaw.

google isp soon pleeeease! im jealous of ur healthcare and internet now too
wtf

I switched from Shaw to Telus a few months ago ($) and I haven't noticed any significant difference with internet.
Shaw cable is like 1000x better though

Which shaw internet did you get?

Shaw sounds like something out of a daydream fantasy...

Sonuds like a fucking miracle. Shaw and Telus are basically the only two gigs in town, and because of the lack of competition they can easily give bad service / hike rates / cap your internet with little to no punishment.
It is really sad how far behind Canada is on developing its high speed infrastructure. Cell phones are the same way too, Canadian companies working under a government imposed monopoly.

Oh it's going to get worse in the US unlimited plans for verison will go bye bye with their adding of 4g networks so no 4g plan will have unlimited data plans for it only rate based lol so all the speed but it's going to cost you.

Canada is really bad for internet/telephone monopolies.
