After my first time playing it I turned off my ps3 feeling thoroughly depressed. Although I saved Shaun, I fucked almost everything else up. Here is a list of what I think to be my important choices/fuck ups, in no particular order.
1. I failed the button prompt for Madison, so she wasn't able to warn Ethan about the police set up outside so he was gunned down immediately as soon as he left the warehouse. I don't think I've ever felt shittier playing a video game.
2. I killed off Jayden failing the button prompts in his fight with Shelby. Again, I felt emotion that I previously thought not possible playing a video game.
3. I failed to save Lauren Winter. I hit the wrong button prompt, thinking it to be the correct one to untie her, but Shelby just swam from the car. Sooooooo pissed after that one, even if she was a whore.
4. I killed the crazy religious guy as Jayden. After he put the gun down, he reached for something else and I hit R1 as a reflex
I felt really awful after that.
5. I made Ethan have sex with Madison and forgive her. Liar or not, I was trying to set up an ending with them getting married or something, but of course I screw that up and get Ethan killed T_T
After feeling so fucking terrible at how I screwed up my first play through I was determined to make it right. Here are the choices/differences I encountered during my second play.
1. I did not kill the religious zealot this time, but I did not see any difference in Jayden's story. Kinda sucked that that choice held no consequences.
2. After Ethan cuts off his finger he tries to escape in the subway with Madison. Instead of leaving on board one of the subway cars I get caught, and Ethan is taken into custody. This was a HUGE difference from my first play.
Jayden and Blake interrogate him and Blake starts beating the shit out of Ethan. Jayden tries to get the commissioner to stop it but he doesn't do anything. So Jayden, believing Ethan to be innocent, lets Ethan escape. However I forgot to turn off the video camera recording the interrogation room so Blake confronts me later saying I'm off the case and that I will be going to jail if he is guilty. Really fucking dumb
3. As Madison, after searching through Dr. Death's house and finding the Blue Lagoon card I leave instead of staying and getting ambushed and tied down and either dieing or killing him and escaping. That took like 10 min of gameplay off lol
4. I saved Lauren Winter from the car(YAY!!) and succeeded in the button prompts when storming Kramer's mansion. I killed like 50 guards with 1 clip in Shelby's pistol and start beating the shit out of Kramer. He has a heart attack and I leave him to die. Killer or not, Shelby is one badass dude.
Later, because you saved Lauren, she starts falling for Shelby and they make out in an airport when Lauren is leaving for her mothers house. I thought that was highly disturbing because it turns out that he had killed her son. I wonder what would happen if Shelby AND Lauren live at the ending?
5. As Jayden when he goes to the Blue Lagoon during his fight with the masked Oragami killer I failed a button prompt at the end which allows Jayden to lunge forward and tear the killer pocket. I did this correctly my first play through. 2 gas receipts are supposed to fall out and that is clear evidence that Shelby is the killer. However since I did not do this Jayden's investigation runs into a dead end. I figured this screwed my chances at getting a good ending.
6. As Madison after surviving Shelby's apartment, I called Jayden and let him know where the warehouse is. I was so relieved when this happened because now I was back on track to a happy ending!!!
7. As Madison I succeeded in the button prompts and saved Ethan from death. So goddamn happy after that. I get the ending in which Madison, Ethan and Shaun are all looking at an apartment together <33
8. I beat the shit out of Shelby as Jayden and let him fall into the grinder thing and die. Jayden's epilogue shows him to be on a talk show and being referred to as a national hero. Or something like that. He ditches his triptocane in a toilet and all is well...
But Since I took the triptocane at every possible scenario except fighting Mad Jack, Jayden starts hallucinating in his ARI and even when he takes them off, so that felt kind of weird. I think there's a better way to end Jayden lol
9. Since I let Lauren live shes is shown at the end talking to Shelby's grave and spitting on it. He is buried next to his brother.
Overall I think this game was fucking amazing. Come to think about it this game isn't really a game, but rather a cinematic experience in which you make choices. Definitely goes into my top 5 favorites.
