you dont know much about game development do you?

developing a 3d game, modelling 3d figures are much more flexible then drawing sprites.

You would need high resolution sprites which look good on high resolution screens [this is not 640 480 anymore], making those is years' work. If you want to modify something on a character, you have to change that on every directional sprite [omfg thats disgusting to even think about] but if you use 3d models this is a simple job.

Thats why even fighting game developers slowly crawl toward 3D.
And all is illuminated.

I doubt you'd edit individual sprites. You would change the 3d model and then render the directions/actions again.

SC units are surprisingly high in detail. I would expect that they used pretty nice models to create them.

Camera angle is fixed, but terrain and models are 3d.

"The terrain is strictly 2D but contains height values which allow it to act as a 3D surface."

I guess it's something inbetween, neither strictly 3d nor 2d, but with 3d units.

Whereas sc is 2d presented as "3d".

Try Company of Heroes. its AWESOME, and you really need it to be 3D, so you actually USE it.
