Basically I was sitting in the corner in lecture today playing poker, and not bothering anyone. In the middle of lecture this random TA came up to me and told me to stop and close my window. Seeing as how everyone is on their labtop using facebook, aim, and playing facebook games ect, I told the TA "this is not highschool, I'm an adult and I can do w/e I want." Then the TA grab my laptop and shut it down while I was in a middle of a hand and told me to "stop or I'll confiscate it." I was completely infuriated and told him "Fuck you, that is fucking physical abuse, what the fuck is your problem." The TA then asked me to give him my name and tell him the name of my TA. I replied "My name is Osama Bin laden, and my TA is your mom." Afterward, I just left lecture.
I think I should stop going to lecture since they only take role and turn in things in discussion anyways. I don't want to get in w/e trouble with the dean because I didn't give my name when asked. Anyway, I feel that the TA was totally out of line, but im afraid that it is useless to tell the professor anything since the professor will just side with the TA. I can't do much here, he is the cop and I am the black guy caught holding a gun.

Important questions: - what limits were you playing? - were you about to lose - what race was the TA? - what year are you in?
|
also, is this tdotkrayz?
if it isn't: I agree with Fontong.

^^ good question
The TA was out of line, but you were far more out of line in your response. Honestly, your reaction basically makes any argument you make against him moot.

While he did not handle the situation well at all, he had every right to kick you out of class for playing poker during his lecture.
Because this is college, not high school. He doesn't have to put up with your shit and he has better things to do than waste his time with you.

Not too big limit, 2-4 limit holdem. I was probably gonna fold that hand so not that bad. White guy looks about 30 years old. 2nd year.

I totally sympathize with your reaction. If someone grabbed my laptop and shut off my poker game, I would probably lose my temper as well.

TA was out of line, but you fucked up as well.
dont see how this will end well for you.

Wow... You are a dumb-ass, if you were "an adult" you wouldn't have reacted that way, and nothing would have happened from it which it most likely will now.
|
it's called courtesy for your neighbors. it was probably distracting other kids in the classroom. if you want to play poker, just stay in your dorm.

TA was way out of line, you didn't handle it well.

I replied "My name is Osama Bin laden, and my TA is your mom."
haha hillarious

Well I do agree that I overreacted, but I felt I wasn't doing anything wrong in particular. I was going to leave the poker game when the blinds hit me and I would've left class afterwards. I just felt that he had no business with what I was doing since everyone was on their laptop playing games and getting distracted anyway. There was no rule stating that you couldn't use your laptop in class and W/E I do with my laptop is my business. I was just playing 1 table, folding mostly and listening to the professor when I wasnt in a hand. The lecture was large and the professor doesn't even care if you don't show up, much less playing poker during class.

As was mentioned before me, both parties made mistakes. The TA should not have closed your laptop and you should not have said the things you did. I play poker as well (though not in class) so i can imagine how infuriating this would be, but if you're playing poker in class you have to understand that if one of the TA's or the professor has a problem with it, you cant go on and keep doing it. Yes you are an adult and its not highschool anymore but if you're going to play poker instead of pay attention why even go to class at all, just stay at your dorm/apartment and play there. The second the TA touched your laptop he stepped out of line, but in life you're gonna have to face much shittier situations than that, and if you can't control your emotions and language then your really going to get yourself into trouble.
On a lighter note, if you still want to go to class but avoid confrontations with that TA, wear disguises
