i was pretty into the rhymesayers affiliates a few years ago, but meh, it feels like they haven't really done anything new in a while. regardless, a couple of them are pretty talented.

They are too white and too middle class for me, if you get my drift. They are boring, pretentiously artsy and lame. Emo-rap for middle class white people.

I like rhymesayers, they have some really dope shit. But for being abstract they are quite overrated...

Just wanted to hear an explanation about what files a song or artist under "emo rap." Thanks! Oh, and also. Since when does the class of a rap song really matter. It's not like they are coming out and going "I grew up in a well off family and you didn't, so haha. Go back to your poor rap!" If you get what I'm saying ![]()

If you get what I'm saying ![]() I dunno, rap that's supposed to be "deep" and caters to a white, suburban crowd. The music is too serious sometimes, and there's alot of emotion and vulnerability going on all the time. (maybe that's why many girls like Atmosphere). While it's of course not a bad thing to sing/rap about emotions, it easily becomes too much for me. It sounds kind of ridiculous to say but it's too "white" somehow, not in color but in style. And like Sadist said, their voices to me are quite monotone (Slug anyways). It's just kind of boring imo and lacks something in expression. The lyrics are there but the deliverance makes me yearn for something more. Yeah, Eminem is quite emo sometimes. But on the other hand he has a better voice and mixes it up more. Atmosphere for instance are a bit too goody two shoes for my liking. Rapping about feelings is fine, but for me at least I'd rather listen to Guru or RZA getting emotional or philosophical any day over Slug. lol, the last part of your post made me chuckle. I know what you're saying and no, it doesn't really matter I guess =) I just want my rap a tad more on the street-level.

If you get what I'm saying ![]() you dont need to grow up poor as long as you dont rap about being poor from your own perspective. Lupe Fiasco is a perfect person who comes to mind. I dont entirely know his upbringing but hes far from "street" yet is so talented and has a good voice/flow that hes an almost perfect rapper. Slug is emo rap though. Its ok to talk about some depth (ala joe budden) but hes super whiny and bitchy about it. Combine this with coming from suburbia with a shitty voice and you have a pretty mediocre/bad rapper
