Hello-
Out of the blue my copy of windows xp pro will no longer boot. At the xp loading screen where there's the bar along the bottom that scrolls as the OS loads, it freezes (the bar simply stops moving) and it doesnt do anything from there. I cant start safe mode and the reinstall CD doesnt seem to load.
Is there anything i can possibly do? What could be the issue?
Thanks!

Fact that it is written by "NastyMarine" does not help either.

fact that there are five replies and none of them are related to thread :o

Did you remember to change the boot drive to cd/dvd ? Just checking....

i cant do anything. it just freezes once it reaches a certain point of the loading screen/bar.

I cant get to safe mode. It automatically freezes.
|
maybe the reinstall CD won't load because you didn't set the BIOS to boot from disk as the first priority

Go into BIOS and make sure Harddrive setting is set to Compatible or IDE. NOT SATA or AHCI.

I have a computer issue too, but it's kind of weird.
Basically as soon as I put my computer into sleep mode, it unsleeps. If I put down the cover, it unsleeps as well, even if it was put into sleep mode before I put down the cover. It's really annoying :/
Anyone know what's up? It's a Thinkpad T61.

It depends what type of computer it is. It can be one of the following
DEL, ESC, F2, F8, F10, or F12.

I had this same problem last week. When I turn on the computer, it goes to the windows XP screen where its all blue but instead of loading and going to the desktop it just froze. So I had to reformat my computer. Didn't even get to backup my files and I couldn't get into safemode either.

I cant spam F8 or F12. It just brings up the screen that freezes. It doesnt display the prompt for the options at startup. What can I do? New harddrive?

this used to happen when I had my ipod plugged in until they fixed it. Unplug all peripherals and remove any disks.

I believe you issue is that your windows can no longer can boot, requiring a format and a reinstall.
In your bios will be a option to boot from CD. Place your windows XP cd in the cd-rom. Before windows even attempts to load your computer will prompt you to hit a key to boot from CD-Rom. This will start the reinstall process that brings you to a blue and yellow screen. It's very basic looking.

On the bottom it says BIOS Revision: 1.1.0 on the loading screen. the bar freezes at like 1/4 of the way through. There aren't any prompts for Safe mode ETC. (F12. F8, F2). It also isn't booting from CD for some reason.
Any ideas? Am I missing something?

Is it a PC or laptop? if PC try opening the case and checking that the hardware is plugged. If you can open the BIOS maybe you can get a hint about whats wrong. Dont remember if the bios is f8/f10 or del at the beggining but it should open before win starts loading.

Delete doesn't work either.
