I cant find right Eclipse version. Im in need of 5.0 java compiler, but all i get when i download eclipse are 1.1 to 1.6  I downloaded standard Eclipse IDE from http://www.eclipse.org/downloads. Any help would be great! Yours sincerely, wannabe programmer.   | ||

Edit: NOTE: The Java version numbering scheme is a bit of a mess, thanks to the geniuses in Sun's marketing department. Java 5 is internally numbered as 1.5. In fact, the various versions of Java are officially named Java 1.0, Java 1.1, Java2 SE 1.2, Java2 SE 1.3, Java2 SE 1.4, Java2 SE 5.0, Java SE 6. The SE denotes the “standard edition”. eclipse usually comes without a JDK so you'd need to download that yourself You can just download the latest Java version and the latest eclipse version. In the eclipse properties it is possible to set the compiler compliance level to 1.5 if you need to. It is also possible to set the Java version eclipse uses. | ||

Just install the JDK and change the JDK pointer in the eclipse settings to your JDK folder. Btw are you sure you want to use the 1.5 JDK? I don't see a reason why you wouldn't want to use the 1.6 JDK. Also make sure your JDK matches your JRE version or you might end up confused ^_^ | ||

I need 5.0 since we use it on class. Im a bit confused right now because i think i saw 1.1, 1.2 and 5.0 options on their computers. Well will try it out. Thx for responses  | ||

Thx for responses all java releases currently are 1.x numbers. in normal speaking its conventional to say "java 5.x" or whatever because each .x is a BIG increase from the last, and sun refers to it as "java 5" or whatever. and java is very uncomplicated compared to most other languages (try assembly lol). java 6 maintains full compatibility with java 5, and for stuff you're using it for there shouldnt be anything deprecated, so you can just use java 6 compiler. if you really need to just go to sun.java.com and get java 5 and point your ide to use it. | ||
