I'm currently on a diet -_- I was browsing the wonderfully (painful) website 'This is Why You're Fat.' (http://thisiswhyyourefat.com/) and it got me wondering what TL-netter's biggest vices are when it comes to food.
Some of the combinations on there seemed quite fantastical to my British cooking self (doughnuts and hamburgers together?!) and I was also wondering if anyone (sane) actually eats those combis?
My personal vices are;
Hamburgers: I've cut them out of my diet entirely and lost 11kg so far.
Ice cream: Baskin Robbins is available in Korea so this has been very tricky.
Pizza: A Pizza School has opened up right next to where I work and it's insanely cheap (5,000won for a large pizza.) but I have resisted so far!
Remember this is vice foods so no healthy things allowed!
Ice cream. I love it so much, but it's so so unhealthy I can't cut it out completely, so I try to only eat it once a week.
All kinds of chocolate, too. At a lot of stores they have the chocolate right where you pay for stuff, so I have to stand there and look at it while I wait in line.
Pizza too, but like ice cream i restrict myself to once a week max (usually Sunday. goes well with football)
Also, Atomic Fireballs. I can't stop eating those!
My entire diet is pizza, tacos, and hamburgers. On the occasion that I make a salad its usually more full of meat, cheese, and sour cream than anything that would be considered healthy in a large dose.
Wow, I'm reaaally lucky I do a lot of sports and can eat what I want, I could never bring myself to cut down on all those tasty things. Gonna go make myself a pizza now. :p
edit: just realized my post may not be very motivational, sorry. ^_^
I want that pizza-taco so bad =( Pop is a big problem for me. I drink 3-5 bottles ( 710mL ) a week. I really need to RESIST otherwise im gonna become a diabetic or something. But it's so addicting zzz
On December 02 2009 14:20 Whiplash wrote: OMG that pizza-taco looks delicious I bet people would buy them all the time if they were sold in smaller quantities
also gl nevergg, remember cardio really helps keep your body slim!
no shit? I heard the opposite. stay away from cardio nevergg.
Man I should follow some of these diets. I can't seem to put on weight no matter what I try... its not bragging, I'm seriously desperate to gain some weight (my BMI tells me I'm almost underweight0.o)
My mortal enemy used to be cake. I don't eat it everyday nowadays In the past 5 months or so I've lost a lot of excess weight and gotten a lot stronger by working out/proper dieting.

I don't know about foods, but my vice is alcohol. Specifically, beer or scotch. Bored? Drink. Can't go to sleep? Drink. Bad day? Drink. Good day? Drink. Football on? Drink. Yeah, not good.
i don't know if its considered a vice cause its not necessarily as unhealthy as everything you've posted, but holy shit i go through so much of this its not funny.

I totally agree, I try not to eat it too much, but when my parents buy a box I can't help it. If I'm hungry and I see it I just make some. So yum.
To be honest I kinda grew out of noodles. I used to eat it frequently though. Especially since we have local markets here, buying fishballs and stuff. Now I cook it from time to time, instead I eat it with some kim chi and a poached egg of course.

those are the best instant noodles i've ever tasted. i swear i never got tired of them.
I eat Ramen quite a bit. Pretty much after about 1:00 A.M., I start shoveling food into my mouth - generally consisting of cheese and salt. I tend to go through about half a block of cheese combined with a row of townhouse crackers, then something strange like jelly beans (I have so many for some reason), then some peanut butter + honey toast, then some potato chips (or cashews in tonight's case). Its a wonder I'm skinny. I still feel bad about that fried bacon and melted cheese toasted sandwich. I definitely at least clogged up one of my arteries from that.

I remember I had that in elementary school, it was damn awful. And the Cheese stuffed Fried Fish too. The best was Hot dogs, beans/sauerkraut and Fried chicken. Cant leave out the PB&J sandwiches
This reminds me of a video on youtube of a really large woman explaining how to cook a salad with something like a pint of mayonnaise and a kg of sugar... but i couldn't find it; does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Lol? This easily reminds me when I hear people say why would you buy 2 big macs, large fries and chicken nuggets, then order a large diet soda as a drink?

Omg I went through SO much of this in my first year when I was living at my dorm. It was pretty funny when me and a friend went out to get 160 packets of these noodles at a supermarket, then he left me with the trolley that had all the packets while he was looking through another store for about 20 mins. I got many many stares from people walking by, probably due to the fact I'm asian haha.
deep fried food used to be my enemy because i worked in a kitchen and got free food so i'd be having xangos (pretty much deep fried cheesecake) 3-4 times a week plus all the other crap i ate.
pop was really bad for me too. ever since i quit working as i cook i've lost 30 pounds because i don't drink pop or eat fast food (even when i go out for nice dinners i pick the healthier choices)
but if i do eat bad its usually a burger.
P.S. my wife does most of the shopping so the house is full of healthy stuff which i highly recommend doing if its possible because when i shop i buy crap
Sweets. Good lord, I just can't get enough of them. I like all sorts of food from all over, but man... at the end of any sort of meal, whether it's steak, fish, rice, casserole, pasta, or anything else, I want a dessert. Personal favorites:
I dont smoke, drink, eat more than 2500 calories at MOST (I usually only eat around 1700), and dont do anything else that would really be terrible to my health. I do, however, COMPLETELY FUCKING LOVE PIZZA.
Though I have a ridiculously strong metabolism and even if I only ate pizza 24/7 I would die of heart failure before gaining a pound.
Otherwise I'd say Crème fraîche. I use the fattest Crème fraîche in most of my cooking. I should really try start using the diet versions instead but it's sooo good.
A few friends and I ate one of the first things ever displayed on that site which is this:
It comes from this really cool ice cream shop down here. It costs $50 and it's called the kitchen sink as in it's toppings include "everything but the kitchen sink" and it's even served in a kitchen sink. We demolished it pretty easily, I think we all could have eaten more.

A male with semi decent genes, not sitting 24/7 in front of his comp can eat all the pizzas he wants. He won't get fat.
Um I wasn't asking for reasons why I'm fat (Which I'm not actually FYI.) I wanted to talk about vice foods.
Pff you must hide behind that camera of yours for reason...
For me, donuts, cookies, chips, and buttery popcorn are probably the worst. And gravy, damn, everything needs to be swimming in gravy. Usually I'm a good boy though and stick to the good stuff. Even cut off the Pepsi, a year ago that would have been a crazy vice, soo much every day T.T

I believe that reason would be shyness, and an unwillingness to display oneself among a bunch of hormonally raging predominantly masculine population. There is something a little creepy about that. From the pictures that others have of her, she isn't fat, but apparently concerned about not dieing before 30 (wish I had that mentality :[ )

cut soda completely out of what you consume, and you can pretty much eat whatever you want
unless your metabolism is god awful.
Yeah. I think I can attribute a lot of my weight loss to cutting out drinking those 2litre bottles of soda. The good thing is most of the soda I get offered her at social events is cola and I don't even like it. I just wish it was easier to find plain sparkling water here, but I haven't seen any for months. Carbonated beverages fill me up so I eat way less, but anything other than sparkling water is filled with sugar so it's no help to the diet.
good job so far NeverGG! :D 11kg is really awesome. however, the tricky thing is not to gain it all back after your dropping your diet. this is defintly the hardest part after a diet period is over!
I have a feeling that most of the foods in these pictures are created by Americans, but it could be my bias assumption. Having lived in Texas these past couple years, I've seen some crazy food combinations, unhealthy as it gets but looks damn good to eat.

If you've got a Wal-Mart in Korea, perhaps you can find these. They're flavored sparkling water using aspartame instead of sugar or HFCS. Contrary to popular belief (read: myth), aspartame is not bad for you.
I have a terrible sweet tooth. I resist for a long time but then I got get a ton of candy or something and stuff myself. Soda was a huge problem for me. It's no so much the soda issue, I have some sort of fixation with drinking something carbonated, all the time. I've managed to substitute sparkling water for soda now, and I go through like a 12 pack of cans every 2 days.

once at rite aid there was a huge box of them selling for under 50 cents. i wish i had gotten more.
The thing I miss most about about school is the chip truck. Every friday me and my housemate would get a slider (wrap filled with bacon and poutine) and just pass out for an hour or two.
I am perfectly able to control all urges in regards to food.
I've had fast food (McD's) once in the last three years and before that once in the last two. Although I do like to indulge in all natural chocolate ice cream once in a while. I guess that can count as my one and only vice food.

lol. those are so bad for you.
edit - assuming that those are anything like the packs of instant noodles that i've looked at.
A tablespoon of mayo is 90 calories. one of those packages is like 350 calories. the sodium levels in those things are usually more than 50% of your daily intake (hell, i've seen instant noodles that have more than 100% of your day's daily intake)
On December 02 2009 14:15 NeverGG wrote: Hamburgers: I've cut them out of my diet entirely and lost 11kg so far.
So congrats on losing the weight! i used to weigh 40kg more than i do now, so i know where you're coming from.
One thing though - from what i've learned, hamburger actually isn't that bad for you. Just get extra lean ground beef, and don't have a crazy disproportionate amount to the rest of what you are eating, and it's not that bad.
Red meat in general isn't nearly as bad as most people make it out to be. It's high in minerals and when eaten in the right proportions, is not too high in calories. (foods high in fat are not nearly as unhealthy as they used to think).
But if your diet works for you and you're happy doing it, then good on you.
The only reason i thought to mention it is when you specifically said 'no healthy foods' i disqualified hamburger from my list as i put it in the healthy category.
My vices are definitely: 1) Beer. God i love beer. Gonna play some video games? - definitely better with beer on hand. Gonna watch UFC - beer makes it better. Gonna hang out with new people - well, it's not necessary, but it makes boring and awkward less boring and awkward. Gonna hang out with people you know? - well, everyone i hang out with likes to drink as well. I'm not limited to beer of course (for example, i'm drinking vodka soda right now), but i LOVE beer. It's one of my favourite tastes.
2) Pasta. Pasta is soooo bad for you. Trying to eat it in proper quantities is nearly impossible [for me]. I can't get enough of it though.
3) Pizza. This would be higher than pasta since it's a million times worse for you, but i actually only eat pizza once a month. I wouldn't even list it if i just had a slice or two a month... but when i order pizza, i usually order a medium or large.... and devour it in one sitting.
Eatting 1 whole pizza? Wow... I thought 4 slices was too much in one sitting, must I ever devoured was 3 slices though in 1 sitting. Regular or Sicilian?
edit: I would probably eat a Domino's Pie by myself, since they're freaking small compared to the regular pizzerias.

midnight snacks are not good! That's why going out/partying a lot gets people fat so easily, alcohol plus bar snacks/munchies at night.
pretty sure this is a myth dude. its just the fact that usually people eat their 3 meals plus more food before they go to bed, so its just extra food. if youre eating less during the evening then i dont see the problem.
i'm choccolate addicted, if i buy choccolate i can't help but finish it as soon as possible; that's why i try not to buy choccolate. I mean choccolate in any form, it could be pre-packed ice-creams, artigianal ice-cream, just choccolate, nutella, choccolate puddings, cakes and so on...
btw pizza (at least something similar to a true pizza) isn't that bad; it's carbohydrates like pasta, you need that stuff during the day, the point is how much pizza you eat

oooooh a trick to having a good healthy burger is to make it from ground turkey meat. The trick is to use oatmeal to imitate the fat. It makes the burgers really soft and the same consistency of a fatty delicious burger.
Oh my god these threads are so painfull... I love food above all else (sept sc ofc), but im a terrible cook. I really need to start learing how to cook..
I've spent all of my life living in either Chicago or Milwaukee, both cities in which eating unhealthily fattening foods is essentially a sport. Well, that and drinking beer.
My step grandma used to have me over for the holidays, and we'd make candy. English toffee, peanut brittle and peanut butter cups. All of them were excellent, but the toffee was by far my favorite. Shame she no longer keeps ties with us anymore, and that I don't remember the recipes anymore. It was amazing stuff.
