I started practicing singing on my own a week ago, mainly inspired by some of my friends he told me to go for it, not for pro or anything, just as a hobby. So after a week of learning stuff online etc, practice I managed to pull of this.
The new Muse song Uprising, Please hear it and rate. Keep in mind I am using a headset microphone, I need to get a good quality one since this is pretty shity (Microsoft LX-3000 xD), and I still need to work on my high notes (alot) as you will hear. So here it is:

http://www.2shared.com/file/8934388/338e716c/aaa.html

Update2: Following some of your advise I stayed away from imitating the muse singer and his weird special voice. Instead I went with what works with me best, here is the result( The chorus is still fucked up, I didnt figure it how exactly, but I am practicing dialy to imporve my range!)
http://www.2shared.com/file/8939662/b979afca/aaaa.html

Update3: I tried to Reduse my Nasality so I reocrded 2 clips , one of the chorus and the 1st set of verse. There is no instrumentals , its just me singing clearly.
http://www.2shared.com/file/8955621/818a716c/Test.html
http://www.2shared.com/file/8955651/cecbe7ab/Test2.html

Update4: Trying to find a song that would reflect my voice properly, because I know Muse is just too special :/ . I love breaking benjamin should I try Evil Angel or Until the end or what? I need your guidance TL members :3

Update5: Practicing on Evil Angel by Breaking benjamin, though I dont know which pitch should I sing the song at which is quite weird, so I recorded me singing a verse in 2 tones, which one is better? http://www.2shared.com/file/8966302/796b5581/test_3.html

6: Tried to sing my heart out on this one, so I got my headphones and volumed them to 80% and started singing Until the end by breaking Benjamin: Umm ignore the screaming I am trying to find ways to learn it properly to generate proper voice!

You picked a bad song to practice on. The muse singer has such a special voice and i think you could do better by singing something more conventional rather than try to imitate him.

It wasnt hillariously bad or anything, it was about on the level of someone who's been practicing it for a week. Keep at it and im sure it will improve even more over time

Thanks for the ups, would you recommend easier songs?

try some of the old classics you stumble upon in karaoke, or find a singer that recembles your voice better. I mean, its very subjective and in the end its all up to what youre interested in doing yourself. If you really like to sing muse you should do that. A good tip in that case is to stand up, raise your head a bit to open up your throat and sing with your stomach rather than with your throat. It will give a better sound and it wont sound nasal. It will also make it easier to hit the higher tones

Edit: For tips on singing there should be quite a few good ones around here. Both some contestants in the recent idol competition you can speak with, and i also think someone signed up for it in the manpower thread.

like Starparty said, stay away from Muse songs for practicing/learning. Bellamy has a unique singing voice, and uses falsetto a lot, which isn't easy to do. If you want a band to imitate for practicing.. there's a lot of rock bands with singers that have a easier range to mimic.

i'd suggest using last.fm or pandora and scout around looking for a band that has a singer you like that is within an easy range. if you have a piano or access to one i'd suggest using it, it will help a lot. learn proper breathing (sing from your stomach), and proper posture so you aren't hunched over.

in my opinion it doesn't matter what you sing...

You're NOT suppose to emulate artists, you'll fail flat out because you'll influence your voice with your mind of sounding like someone else and end up not using your natural voice which is always bad.

How do you suggest I should sing, just get instrumentals and try and implement my style in them? Sort of like a cover for the song ?

I suggest you try to find an artist with a similar voice and song with a range comfortable for you and practice those.

And would getting a good mic improve the recording? Most of the people I know say that my voice is alot better live, so would that matter?

yah just do your own cover, trust me just do your own thing. Often times the hard part is trying to be yourself and sound like yourself. Cuz the more you try to sound like someone else, the worse it'll be.
Also when you do sing, make sure that you're at a place where you can fully let your voice go out, like if people are sleeping and w/e it's not the best place to practice, and infact it might even get you bad habits.

Yes, getting a decent mic would definitely help the quality of your recording. Although the quality isn't THAT bad compared some some mics I've used in the past

Yeah at some point I wasn't sure if I could sing at all, sometimes I thought it sounded decent, sometimes I hated it, so I decided to get a decent mic, and check out what it sounds like. If you have some spare money I suggest you to get one
(something like this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/rode_nt1_a_complete_vocal_recording.htm )

About your singing: Tbh the chorus sounded really horrible ^^ But like the others said, muse is very difficult to sing, that guy has a sick range and is a lot more talented than 90% of other rock singers. the verse on the other hand sounded fine, and would surely sound better after having practiced for a while.
One Tip: Learn how to play the guitar, and play/sing along to some songs you like

definatly get a condenser mic, tho often times its tricky to set it up with the computer, you might also need a seperate outside soudn card which can get really expensive.
