So today I came home from the Princeton vs UMD match (we swept them 3-0 woot) and started scooping myself a bowl of ice cream. It was chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, ie the undisputed king of ice cream, which we don't get all that often, so I was pretty psyched as I scooped out the giant slab stuck to the bottom of the tub. I got it out with my spoon and lobbed it into the waiting bowl but the the bowl slipped, and my poor reflexes could not save the precious ice cream (as they couldnt save my lingtightwall depot from 3 dts in our joke ace game :'( ). So the bowl fell to the ground and shattered into a million pieces, and I couldnt eat chocolate cookie dough ice cream.
I wasnt sad though. For some reason I felt happy, disappointed I guess, but really not caring about the loss. Maybe I felt good that my dad had made his perfunctory yelling-at-you-for-accidentally-breaking-shit speech brief because there were indian soap opera's on. It certainly didn't rile me up because Id already forgiven him for his temperament, his mistakes of blame, etc since he had enough to deal with in his own life and the dickheads who are his kids. But as I started sweeping up the pieces of bowl, I noticed one of them was one of the refrigerator words we had: it said “feel.” I swept it in and tossed the mess in the trash.
Ive just been thinking that its kinda ridiculous to be sad or disappointed at the way things happen, things you think are good or bad or whatever. It feels like my expectations of every instant from every other instant are predicated on a million uncertainties that I cant see past, so its stupid to invest so much in each one. It feels like there are no good or bad decisions, that life is just an irreversible, irreducible series of events that leads us to exactly here and now and there and then and the what-if's are savagely irrelevant. Ambling toward vague goals for the far future is just about as much as I can do.
Incidentally, since I decided to write this, the small amount of awesome ice cream that was left in the tub melted into an unintelligible mass of sweet chocolately goo. Oh well.

+ extension equal to the amount of time greater than 5 seconds the item in question has been on the ground. More practical IMO.

duckett, you've been hanging around those princeton gosus way too long.
You're transcending the thought process of normal, non-gosu human beings. This blog is deep, man. Good to see you're still doing well (I think..). See you next DC LAN? :D

I was beginning to worry that I was the only one seeing the deeper meaning in the blog. Thanks.

You'll have to make the next one then. Sometime over winter break I'll probably put one together.

Beautifully written piece of fictional literature, I enjoyed it immensely. It will make you laugh, cheer, and cower in fear and cry. Then it finishes you off feeling stronger and better than you went in.
