Well, yesterday i was at a party when my dad called. A broken pipe caused a leak and ran for i dunno, like 2 hours open. When he came to my house, he heard a noise downstairs. As he stepped onto the basement his whole foot went underwater. The basement was flooded. There was even a guitar case with a guitar floating :S (thank god, the guitar lives). We spent from 12.30am to 3.30 am tyring to get rid of the water. We spent the whole day today removing the wooden floor to see if we can save the wooden parts (which i thinkare done for) and removing excess water underneath the wooden floor. We then spent the rest of the day moving all the stuff from the rooms on the basement to the other rooms upstairs. The computer is fine.. but damnit.. i dont have a room for like a week :S

Well if you get back to your house and you find it filled up with these:
You can always take them out with your shotgun or some sort of fast rpm weapon (do not use plasma rifles)
+ Show Spoiler +On a more serious note, this exact same thing happened to my mom, aunt, grandma and I one day they went shopping and got to our home hours later. Thankfully, it wasn't too bad; the water got to the kitchen are and we cleaned it up in a matter of hours. But the wood was done for

When I lived at the lake our first floor was flooded once when we had a heavy rain. Similar situation you were in, except we had to baricade the doors to keep the water out while trying to get rid of the water inside. It was pretty lol. It trashed our yard though

We had a flood in our basement recently but much less severe than yours. Took almost a week for the floor to dry though XD
Lost some crap to water damage since we didn't even notice the leak for a while (like 2 days) ._.
