But I would agree that in the contemporary United States, only whites can be racist, though anyone can be prejudiced.

- 'Black studies' is not deemed racist apparently to white peoples, but many would agree 'white studies' would offend black people. That's fucking retarded. - Saying only whites can be racist is just fucking bullshit. Period. - I know chances are this thread will lead to lots of flaming and shit, but in all seriousness, the black girl was most definitely out of line. Whether the positions/races were reversed or not doesn't change the fact that the girls statement and what is being taught is quite offensive, regardless of status or class or whatever.

But jokes aside: Racism is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. Do you see anything about power here? Or anything like that? The truth is, you can be racist despite being a member of a minority. As long as black thinks his race is superior to white, he will be racist. It's the same for everyone. Now, if we're talking about racial discrimination... the term "racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life. Again, no mention of power etc. Everyone can be racist.

Do you agree with this?" Her professor's view is crazy. As many people have pointed out, anyone can be racist. Perhaps, however, she misstated his point. Defining "prejudice" as "a belief about a group" and "discrimination" as "an action taken because of prejudice", I would definitely agree with the following: "A group in power can more easily discriminate against a group not in power" Note that this has nothing to do with being "racist" or not; it is possible for any member of any group can be racist.

Can Obama be racist....clearly a white person is running the country lol. Someone actually brought up the point that a half-black man was currently the "most powerful man in the world." -- and she simply responded that it doesn't matter because most positions of power in the U.S. are still run by whites.

Yeah the girl's statement was idiotic, but don't assume that is specifically what is being taught in her black studies class. It's just as likely that she didn't understand what her professor was saying (as others have pointed out, they could have been using a specific definition that is different from the 'normal' one). There's also a lot of motivation to present yourself as significantly more oppressed than you actually are, which could explain the significance of the class divide.

Where i live in sweden theres alot of immigrants(not black people tho) and alot of them are racist and randomly assaults/cusses white people for no reason - completely unprovoked. Anyone who thinks just white people are racist is a fucking ignorant fool and most likely not white themselves(no racist, lol). Those who say white people are the only ones being racist are infact the ones being racist cause they are accusing another race. Also, your school is really stupid. They have black people studies classes where they teach black people that only whites are racist. Now thats racial discrimination, they should fire that teacher asap.
