My problem is I'm a relatively shy guy and I can rarely spark up a conversation with girls. It's been a habit of mine and I can't really break off from the chains of my pretty low self-esteem. I've done some things in my life that I don't like and it doesn't feel I've accomplish what I deem in my life as fit and happy. When I feel happy, I usually watch anime and it takes away the bordom and the need to hate myself. I don't necessary hate myself for not doing anything or I Just can't cause I dunno what to do. One time I had a crush on this girl in gr 5 (I knw eh) and her mom drives me to the same school as her. Me and the other kids usually play together with her. During one period of lunch, only me and her were alone together but I couldn't say the magic words, I really did like her but I was a shy kid back then. After that year I moved and I haven't really talk to her since. As years past by I've found myself secluded from other people even in highschool but not caring to talk to girls that I've found as self-confident or people that can talk really well. I can't find ways to talk to girls nor do I know ways that people ask questions to girls. It's gotten to the level that I feel I don't need to start a conversation unless my mood for that day feels great but I'm not really sure if I can change to be a better person, any suggestions?
push yourself everyday. u need to keep trying to talk to people and just take chances are risks. sometimes it will be awkward and embaressing but eventually it will just become second nature u will be good at it.
Get a proper idea of what you live for, what is valuable in this world and what the fuck you are doing here else than playing video games, and you'll see that everything takes shape. Don't be satisfied with easy answers. Don't be satisfied by what people say: money, success, hapiness. That's not enouugh and you know it.
Read read read. That's the only, only way not to be an idiot, successful or not. Being a successful idiot is worse than being an accomplished and smart loser.

Maybe some people realize that a life made with a computer screen, and/or five (three?) cards in the hand and money to bet is not a satisfactory one for them?

Maybe.
So this is where they turn? :psyduck:
Well, precisely, that's where the whole problem is. I don't say the OP is not nerdy, I just say it seems that some people are not quite happy to be nerds (as hard as it seems to conceive for some people).

there are 2 paths to happiness imo. 1.) Be a Buddhist monk and learn to be content with the person you are(your version of nothing) 2.) Strive toward your goals and do the BEST you can. cant ask anymore out of yourself.
Your just scared... all my life i haven't given a fuck about what other people think about me. So i don't know how to help you besides telling you to think about 1 and 2 then decide which is better for you.

Except that not evreybody consider that being happy is the main goal of a life.
Don't listen to your parents or other adults who are being nostalgic about how it was when they were at your age. Your brain is messing up. Your body is changing. Everything changes and you get confused. You start seeing awful things around you. You do stupid things. Etc. etc. Sometimes it's fun, but as far as I know, it is awful most of the time. As BanZu said: find yourself something you are really interested in and become good at this.

So they prefer a life of doubting themselves and posting an emo I'm a Nerd blog on tl.net which will ultimately lead them to no conclusions other than the ones they have already drawn and already cannot implement into their lives because they simply don't have balls which is probably their parents fault for not bringing them up correctly or maybe they are just really small n scrawny or fat which is just unfortunate for them but thats not even an excuse because something can be done about that too.
Stop giving a fuck plz tl.net nerds. Worms don't talk to girls much either be happy ur not one of those.

Ok.... wellllll.... Highschool is highschool. For some reason boys this age assume girls their own age are perfect little women all just waiting for a guy to have the guts to ask them out so they can smile and say "yes, let's live happily ever after :D".
This is completely backwards.
Let's throw some reality into the mix: girls are a lot more insecure about themselves at this age than a guy could ever be - they either turn out pretty our they don't. If they don't, that's it - G f'ing G, society shows them zero examples of unattractive women who are still successful (no, ugly betty does not count).
Boys this age however, can all take comfort in the fact that it's in their own power to be successful, it's not a random genetic throw of dice. Society gives thousands of examples of unattractive men who are successful, rich and have a wide selection of women in their circle.
Now reflect upon this and realize how lucky you are:
* Get rich <-- hard, yes, but possible. * Get pretty <-- heh, yeah - good luck girls, plastic surgery will make you look like freaks.
* Work out <-- hard, yes, but possible. * Put on makeup every day, do your hair, wear expensive clothes, stay skinny <-- possible? yeah, for sure, but a few rejections and "you're still not pretty" comments or anything to that effect down the road and the amount of emo girls is no longer a shocking surprise.
--
If you can't stay happy just thinking about how lucky you are not to be born in the third world, why not reflect on what life would be like as an unattractive girl? Would YOU want to be rejected (or not even looked at) by a guy like yourself?
Grow some balls and talk to people already, get a job or something..

Bravo! This man nailed the point on the head. People far too often overlook the other side of the coin.

Who's threadshitting now, honestly lol?
If you want to offer serious advice - go right ahead and do so.
I'll settle for an insult along with some much needed realitycheck-wisdom, why? Because neither of us are qualified to give advice if the situation is as serious as implied - if the OP has a deep-running fear of talking to people and lives in an everyday world where he curses choices he made (or didn't make) years ago, a psychiatrist is the healthiest solution.
I, however don't think so - i think some good 'ol Gordon Ramsay material is enough to send a message. If OP(you) want(s) to talk to someone, just go ahead and do it ^^ You don't need our "advice" to accomplish a conversation, if you want it enough, you'll just do it, you've already admitted a problem which i've put into context. In that context - your problem really isn't that big of a deal.
Stop watching so much Anime and stop substituting desires with other things as well. (to a degree, never stop starcraft!)
At least do this until your unsatisfied human instincts force you to do what fulfills them, then you have gotten brave and can resort to watching anime with confidence.

LOL THATS WIERD YOUR IN EVERY FUCKING ONE OF THEM LOLLLLLLLL
gotta keep the extremely insulting comments rollin' man good work! Yea there have been alot of these fuckin threads. cut this shit out and go outside you motherfuckers.
Get a hooker. It will help you realize that the only thing you should be focusing on right now is yourself - improving your own life, getting some goals, becoming someone you're not ashamed to be. As long as your mind stays focused on getting sex and/or a gf you won't be able to focus on yourself and fix what really needs to be fixed. If you've already realized that, great, next step would be to take some action, going abroad for a few months or more sounds good, it will force you to get out of your routine and it somehow feels more natural to socialize with complete strangers in a foreign country than with complete or even half strangers in your own country. Ofc you will need to speak the local language at least a little and depending on the country results may vary.
The fun thing is that even if you agree that you should take action you probably won't because it's just so much easier to continue not doing anything all day long. That's the most comical and depressing thing about all these threads. I still think they're worth it though, since my optimistic nature leads me to believe that out of these 1000 people 1 is actually going to take his shit together and fix his life (which is actually really easy once the process is started).
On October 27 2009 10:17 Artosis wrote: being a nerd is awesome. stop caring what people think. once you can truly do that, you will be unstoppable. just enjoy your life.
It's true. Artosis and a big group of nerds stood in a huge circle on the sidewalk in Manhattan and made the new york city natives walk into the gutter to get by.
If you don't have confidence and are insecure then just be really active for a while, get really good at something (seriously, almost anything, preferably that can impress people). Get some attention for it a few times and then resume watching anime, with the confidence and knowledge that life is actually really easy.
Okay so you like anime. You already have an advantage. Find a girl who likes anime and talk about your favorite anime's together and then your all set. You can pretty much tell if someone likes anime just from looking at them so it shouldn't be too hard to find someone.
