Comedy answers welcomed - I'm probably asking for it posting something like this ^_^;; So, it's the off-season and despite the full calendar here at Teamliquid most of the events are not worth photographing. This is due to a lack of players attending or general issues I have with their format. The massive amounts of down-time have led me to notice I only actually have three hobbies and I wanted to ask for some suggestions as to how to occupy my time (and not spend all my money in the process because I'm saving again for another lens.) My Current Hobbies:~ Photography. ~I'm planning to branch out into other areas of photography such as doing landscapes, plus more floral and animal work. However, finding the motivation without a 'partner' to spur me on when it comes to leaving the house has been tough to say the least. ~ Shopping. ~My biggest vice in Korea is the book stores and my love of imported photo books (great inspiration for photo shoots.) accounts for most of the money I don't spend on camera equipment and food. Once I've hit the shops I like for the month there's no real need to go back to them until the next delivery though. ~ Watching dramas and movies. ~I'm an avid fan of dramas (mainly Japanese because most Korean ones are a bit too melodramatic and romantic for my tastes.) I've been a bit disappointed by this season's releases though and I'd love suggestions as to what *else* I could be watching. About me:I'm terrible at socialising. In between usually being too tired to go out, being at eSports events and having low self-confidence I don't really go out much. So it's more solitary hobbies or things to do I'm interested in. I have plenty of spare cash, but most of it is going on a lens this month - so free things to do are even better than those which cost money. My Own Ideas:~ Expand my photography and get off my ass to do it. ~ Focus on dieting and take long walks. ~ Explore Seoul. ~ Watch something in English for once. ~ Go to more concerts (I have two in the next two months!) ~ Way more eSports projects. ~ Sit down and actually try to study Korean.

get out of seoul.
the countryside of korea (aka every part that is not seoul) is quite beautiful and there are nice sauna type locations out there. don't know the price ranges on those things but last time i visited korea my aunt dragged me into the "farmlands" and that was honestly the time i enjoyed the most. the food in the countryside is very good as well. much better than the delivery jja jjang myun.

=D The time has come!
Let's see... I always like to suggest something active that can take up a lot of time. Do you like to swim maybe? Play a particular sport? I dunno what people play in Korea... Other than starcraft that is! Anyway, running or exercising in any way tends to take up long periods of time and make all the other periods of time more fun. That's my suggestion.
Also, eat more toast. It has magic powers.
If you're looking for something to waste your time with watch the West Wing. The first four seasons are the best television of all time.

Dramas always leave me feeling like I want more and I don't really like waiting to find out what happens. I always get that feeling of just blah after a drama ends, too. I just watch variety shows instead.

if you have memory on your rig, download and watch movies.

read! heck, there's a lot of good korean language authors should you want to go that route

I surf Wikipedia and teach myself math stuff. I love math, and I don't mind thinking in my free time, but that's not true for a lot of people. Sure makes math class easier though.

Pick up some kind of sport. Maybe a racket sport such as like squash, tennis, or racquetball? Something you can always practice by yourself once you get the basics down (various shots, serving, conditioning).
|
Id go with socialize with TLers more, via irc, pm or msn or the like.
that or random new dieting methods, new exercises, drinking with susie, etc...
For instance, in my spare time, im now reading a bunch of new books, writing, and exercising. The last two I used to do alot and loved but stopped for some reason, and reading im trying to get to a book a week (over the 5 in one month then stop reading for 3-4 months).
Just find something you find fun that you don't normally do and just do alot of it.

Read to expand and better your writing style, perhaps for Fomos!
I'm not saying I don't like your reports. They're excellent, but it's always great as a writer to expand your horizons and absorb new little things into your writing style!
If you want interesting things in English I suggest Mark Danielewski or Chip Kidd.

Proposal Daisakusen (Operation Love)
Liar Game (Based on the manga and the manga is better)
Kurosagi is pretty good too
I suggest mangas to keep you busy, a lot of films are based on mangas because their storylines tend to be good (the good ones anyway)

how is it that the most obvious answer has not yet been innuendoed yet?
SOLITARY ACTIVITY THAT ONE INDULGES IN, LOW COST, BURNS CALORIES, TRAINS FINGER DEXTERITY, CAN BE DONE DAMN NEAR ANYWHERE ANY TIME, IS EXPLORATORY, AND IF IT SUITS YOUR FLAVOR, EVEN GOES WELL WITH PHOTOGRAPHY!!!
...
OF COURSE, I am talking about pen spinning. And in the case that you don't have a pen, you could always borrow someone else's =D.
And since you want to branch out your video watching selection, if you need help getting started, there are plenty of english AND japanese videos that could help you learn and practice.

I think we have similiarities, quiet and shy i dont go out much as well but recently i pulled out a guitar from the garage and justed started playing it.. dont need a teacher and its quite easy to learn by yourself.... so why not learn an instrument!? good idea i reckon .... cook at home despite all the gorgeous food u can buy outside for a penny and try exercising at home its pretty fun and easy
And also why not try going out to the rural regions in korea like Busan... im pretty sure there are loads of things to take photographs of
and always remember you have to go things a go even if you dont like it ... its important to have a crack theres no rule that says u must love it

Diablo 2 will take years of your free time (and time you don't have).
Seriously though, getting a better diet and exercise is never a bad thing and being in good shape is awesome for your self esteem. Dknight had a really good idea with picking up a sport. If there is a sport that looks fun and has a group of people that play socially in your area then I'd highly recommend checking it out. As long as you realize you're going to be really bad for the first month at least it should be an awesome time. If that isn't and option simply throwing in a half hour or hour work out session every other day would be awesome.

I'm an English teacher (I'm also not a man) I spend 9-4:30pm every Mon-Fri in a school. I completed my compulsory and advanced British schooling (Primary to University.) over 4 years ago - no desire to go back whatsoever and it's also not possible on my current visa to study in a Korean university.

Watch Jumong, Prince of the Legend. It's a historical Korean drama, but don't let that sway you, it's anything but boring. I don't usually watch Korean dramas for the same reasons you do, but this show is different. It is probably the best show I've ever seen. I'd avoid reading the synopsis from the link above as it contains spoilers, just use it for the streaming video links. If you want to read what other people think you can read these amazon reviews.

Rewatch 꽃보다 남자 and laugh at the acting.
Oh, and if you are REALLY bored, download the 1994 CCTV 81-part series of 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms'. It WILL keep you up

Learning a new language is something that can really motivate you at first, and seem really exciting. The problem is you'll soon find it to be tedious work, and realize it requires much more work than a typical "hobby" does.
For me, exercising became a really addictive hobby. I don't exert myself too much, but walking/jogging/doing crunches really caught on with me, and I'm in better shape now than I was playing sports in high school.
I've also been studying acting, and that's been incredibly fun. It's something that can be really enlightening and helpful, even in a recreational context. Good luck with your search.

I was going to say they don't even let women into those places, but then I remembered all the leaflets covered in photos of male Japanese pop musicians and actors littering the tarmac around where I live on a Saturday night and bearing the immortal title 'Ho Bar.'

Ho Bar has tequila shots for 1500won, doesn't get cheaper than that :D

my life is so boring atm =/
if im not at school i'll be at the gym and if not i'd be either on a pc surfing the web for hours or watching tv
=/
i'd recommend you go and try a bunch of food places, that's always fun!

Maybe a pet, if you think you could make time for it?
Pillow forts are good too.
Also if you could take a hi-res picture of a rabbit wearing something on its head (deck of cards?) and send it to me that would be amazing. I need something to blow up and hang on my wall and I'd really appreciate it :O
Just saying...
Writing is good too... Especially something short and poetic to go as captions for your pictures?
Learning a language is a large undertaking, but worth it..
Also... getting really good at cooking is always a useful talent... Just trying recipes and new food is a nice way to put variety into your life. Cooking good stuff can take a long time, so it would definitely fill your idle hours.
Maybe you could be a tour guide for TLers who visit SK?
Stuff and stuff and more stuff...

If you like TV series and want to watch something in English, I would recommend "Lost", it has been pretty nice so far with the last season starting in 2010.
Playing sc is fun too lol
Maybe you could try something new that you dont think you like. Taking a dance class and going to Night Clubs. You shouldnt have low self-confidence. You are a pretty girl, you have an interesting job, and you always seem to be around fun stuff.

Awww thank you ^_^; I've had low self-confidence for years and coming to Korea has made it both better and worse in many respects. I just need to keep my mind occupied all the time so I don't dwell on problems.

You should start up the Photo-Swap thing! I haven't touched a camera since that kind of went inactive...):
I listen to music in my spare time, which I have a lot of right now. Finding new music, trying out new bands in new genres, etc, is really fun for me. I tend to go in bursts, though...sometimes I won't really try out anything new for months, and other times I'll suddenly binge and start listening to a dozen new bands in a matter of days.
I also read manga and watch anime (I'm sure you've already got this covered, since you pop into the general forum thread now and then...)...
Other than that...I just go out with friends doing...not much at all...just chilling.

I know a couple of people have mentioned guitar. I really enjoy playing guitar as a private hobby, but getting into guitar is kind of difficult, especially acoustic guitar. It's not as bad as violin or anything, but for a while, you'll just get blisters without having the finger strength or dexterity to do a lot. I don't know, give it a try. It sure beats sloppy wind instruments and it's the one instrument with plenty of information and tabs on the internet.
Also, is that Gokusen (sp?) High in the OP? aka female GTO? I remember watching that! Do you partially watch that show because it's about a teacher!? Do you have unruly gangster kids in your class, too!?
|
If you still like Japanese dramas and haven't watched these, I recommend "1 litre no Namida," "Densha Otoko," "Hotaru no Hikari," "Nobuta wo Produce," "Hana Yori Dango," "Jotei,"and "Kimi wa Petto." Hotaru no Hikari and 1 Litre no Namida are my favorites out of these.
