so sin x, cos x and e^x were getting ready for this massive party (or function, har har) one day. sin x and cos x were both pretty excited, but they noticed e^x seemed kind of down about the whole thing. they exchanged glances and on the way to the party did their best to try and cheer him up. it didn’t quite work, though, and once they got there they resolved to just go ahead and have fun. after a couple of hours, cos x spied e^x sitting alone in a corner. concerned for his friend, cos x signalled to sin x and they both moseyed up to e^x, taking a seat at either side.

“you should really get out there, you know,” said sin x. “there are loads of people at this party. go and talk to someone!”

“yeah,” added cos x. “make some friends!”

e^x looked up, glancing first one way then the other. “it doesn’t matter,” he said morosely. “even when i integrate, it doesn’t make a difference!”
