It's an easy author to read yet immersive and powerful and his short stories are masterpieces, which is the best thing to read when you're not fluent in a language. Dumas is not a great author so I don't recommend it. Also 17th, 18th century authors and poetry might be too hard to begin with. you'd have to read something modern like Bridget Jones' Diary. Sartre or Camus won't help you improve you spoken french, at least much less than something more recent. I facepalmed reading this... | ||

Michel Houellebecq is a contemporary writer who should be pretty easy to read and entertaining, although I only read translations myself. Yes but he's a bad writer... | ||
