the difference between tlhf and kpop thread is .... well thats like comparing a library with a music-video television station
what im trying to show you also is that TLHF is comprised of a number of major and distinct re-occuring themes.
its not "The workout spam VS everything else"
its the weight-losers VS the weight-gainers VS the cardio guys VS the bodybuilders VS the injured VS the powerlifters VS some special event VS the workout spam .............
not like a kpop thread at all :/ we NEED a proper forum, its not just a case of itd be nice

As has been mentioned before by many people here, there are so many different topics related to health and fitness that a subforum would really be benificial. Right now you can't really have a discussion about a specific topic longer than a few posts because before you know it there's 2-3 new pages in the thread about other stuff. I know I'd definitely post more if there was a subforum to organize things a bit more.

i got some more support for this on facebook.
dude nice post about the TLHF subforum
facebook counts doesnt it

I like the idea of three or four stickies (general chat, general exercise, general nutrition, and quick Q&A). But general chat could also have information on gen. exercise and nutrition. Idk, maybe a complete beginners thread would be better.
Also, I believe we should be able to start our own journal in the subforum, perhaps with the title [Journal]. It is nice to keep track of your progress and not have to wade through 5 pages to find your workout from the previous day.
I think most people need to realize that once we get a forum, a lot more people will probably join in. There might be "The official running thread" along with "The official martial arts thread" and all that. I think we have sort of a narrow focus in our current thread and are so far along in it that it intimidates people from posting. After all, we have our own mini community where we know the new comers. This can potentially be off putting, and I haven't seen anything like this in any of the other threads.
I do have another suggestion as well; put the "sports" part of the games and sports forum into ours. As it stands, it would be a much better fit into a fitness/physical activity sub forum than the current one, would bring more traffic to a sub forum you are hesitant to create because you fear it will just be a select few in it, and in its current sub forum is outnumbered by the game threads that populate it.

i never got the feeling of being put off in tlhf, i think when people realise we are talking facts and science then i think anyone with enough interest to read the thread would also be drawn to this and not feel put off by a seemingly "elitist" presence - we all have in common the thirst for information and improvement, something that both newcomers and regulars have alike

another awesome analogy is that you wouldnt light fireworks at a nunnery, but you might light them at a celebration of raw human powerclean

ShaLLoW[baY] likes this.
I think you broke it down really well though. Good use of subtopics, and I can't really think of anything you'd have missed. I'm sure that the LoL/DotA forums have encouraged some closet players who didn't really keep up with 10000 page threads to come out of the woodwork, and I'm sure a TLHF sub-forum would be the same.
Also, eshlow could then officially be crowned king.

wait what

Upon reading a few of zatic's posts, I have to say that it's not the thread itself that scares off people with different interests/training methods, but the sheer inanity of some of their requests.
"Hi guys, I just want to be tone and fit and I don't want to do weights but I want to gain weight" is completely unrealistic. Starting Strength is constantly lauded because it works. The thing is though, the thread also has a bunch of people who have progressed to other training styles, like Olympic Lifting (decaf, dimsum), Strongman (sjarl), bodyweight/gymnastics (travis), or even lady-killing (funkie). It's called Starting Strength because it's a good starting point; people who want to start training would do well to start with it, and then continue on with bodybuilding/crossfit/whatever they want to get out of training. You have to walk before you can run.

Also, it might make more sense for TLHF to be put under "Sports and Games" rather than "Community" since it's odd to see it among pages of "SC2 players in XXX".

That is what would happen, yes. Essentially, TLHF would be presented like the Mafia forum is currently.

Well just like the TLHF thread I would like to have this community driven as much as possible. I think TLHF is one of the nicest corners of TL, which so far didn't need any moderation action at all - I'd like the same to be true for a TLHF forum.
From the Feedback in this thread I would propose the following layout:
Stickies: General exercise General nutrition Q&A Success stories
For each of these (except Q&A) we would need a volunteer to keep it updated.
I'll move the current TLHF thread over as a general chat thread. No need to sticky since it will be bumped regularly.
Then people can create the 'official' Running, Starting Strength, Bodyweight training, etc threads. Only requirement is that they continue to update and maintain the threads.
Finally I would like to ask everyone participating in creating this forum to remember that making this more inviting for people not interested in strength training was one of the key motivations for this forum.

Definitely. Thread is becoming increasingly biased towards weightlifting.

I've definitely made it a focus myself to mention when I do other things - when I'm running, how I'm working on my diet, that I'm sleeping correctly, and that I'm now playing more basketball, but I still notice that even in my own posts, a lot of it is about my daily lift. It's just the easiest way to keep motivated... the best thing to keep track of.

Yeah i know its dominating by lifting a lot but i always update my progress on rugby and nutrition and stuff.

Should supplements and nutrition be the same topic?

My personal opinion would be yes. Supplements "supplement" general nutrition.

Looks like it finally happened! Cool shit.
