Map Info: - 1v1 - 136x96 playable size - Mixed texture set - 8 blue bases, 2 gold bases - going for an artificial soccer/football field look (yes i left in some of the straight lines)
Thoughts: Soooo, now that I have more free time I've tried going back and working on some of my older abandoned projects. Decided on this one because the theme was interesting and I spent a lot of time on it. I made the outer stadium first, which limited the size I had to work with on the layout (stupid me). The aesthetics are a work in progress because the crowd still requires custom settings and there are a lot more doodads to add. Mostly I'm hoping I could get some feedback on the layout.
Details: I tried to counter act the shorter rush distances on this map by making the natural and third somewhat easy to defend. The main attack path is blocked by two DRs, forcing early armies to skirt around the edges. The paths through the middle have a few options for flanking and counters. There are no XWTs because I think they would be to strong due to the small playable area.
Note - cliff from high ground third to natural expansion will be blocked preventing warp-ins and cliff walking units.
Before I start, this isnt critisism, just something I dont get
Why on earth would you place a 'normal' map in a stadium like that? The stadium looks awesome, but I think the actual map should have a similar theme to it. Now its just a map with a gimicky stadium around it. Think you can do more with it
@FlopTurnReaver Thanks, yeah i did the stands with the height tool and a bunch of doodads.
@Gfire Thanks
@ihasaKAROT Mind = blown. I feel dumb for not thinking of this, guess I'm just too into the melee mindset. Time to try a smaller fun map. Prepare for a new layout (not that I'll throw away the old one). I see the light 0_o
Dont worry about it, thats actually how most of my maps turn out how they turn out
1. have great idea that has effect on about 5% of the layout / map 2. build the other 95% around that first idea 3. rethink that the 95% is way better then the 5% and that they just dont match 4. redo the 5% to match the awesomeness of the other 95% 5. think to myself 'why on earth didnt I just make it like that from scratch 6. feel happy that my initial ideas are only 5% of a total map so it saves reworking more
