I casually use twitch, discord, twitter, etc. where I interact with the SC2 community a lot, and I've seen countless examples of people leaving/taking a break from the game due to the new maps. Lots of players I've talked to, including many GMs on twitch, and other random people who's messages I see directed at the map pool.
A compilation from various platforms of social media:
Let me say I'm real happy ESL didn't go full you know what and had the wisdom to keep in a few standard maps, and didn't implement things like healing shrines. If they were reckless I'm sure even more people would quit due to balance issues and game warping mechanics. Remember, our beloved SC2 is in maintenance mode with about one balance patch every 7 months. Nobody wants to risk another 7 months of swarmhost or BL/infestor 2.0
Even so, it's evident putting in so many non standard maps has made more people leave than join the game, even the incredible famed Lorimbo has stopped due to the map pool.
ESL I appreciate all you do, but I think this is the wrong direction to take the game. It unfortunately doesn't make the game interesting or fun; things just become frustrating and gimmicky.
Not all of us are willing to abandon ship to stormgate. Please stop these unnecessary risks, it feels like they are throwing random shit at the game and see what sticks because hey, you know, if the game sucks now, just play SG anyway...

This feels...like an odd collection of random comments. Like...you could probably make that kind of assembly for any mappool in the history of the game, right? Some people will always complain and I get it.
I would however, in any case, strictly deny that ESL is having the idea of "hey, if this sucks, just play Stormgate". Stormgates official release is tomorrow and as of yet ESL has almost zero involvement in the game. If they would truely believe Stormgate is "the next big thing", I'm sure ESL would have investment atleast some ressources into it, implementing a foothold. But aside from some random showmatches, ESL hasn't done anything so far.

If anything I feel the more consistent complaint is a lack of map variety
Of course there is a fine line between interesting and novel, and something gimmicky and frustrating to learn or play on

it's fine to complain about maps, but this is just not a good quality post (especially with some half-baked "ESL intentionally ruining SC2" conspiracy at the end)
